Salley Pearl Clark Crowder, 95, of 95 Holcombe Cove Rd., Candler, died Thursday, January 31, 2008, at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center. A native of Buncombe Co., Mrs. Crowder was a daughter of the late Elmer and Lidia King McMahan Clark. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Floyd A. Crowder, who died in 1982; and by her son, Charles Crowder, who died in January, 2008. Mrs. Crowder was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Mrs. Crowder is survived by her son James Crowder and wife Marie, of Arden; daughter-in-law, Beryl Crowder, of Williamsburg, VA; brother, Calvin McMahan, of Hendersonville; granddaughters, Carolyn Smith and husband David, of Arden, and Deonne Rubino and husband Steve, of Williamsburg; grandsons, Jimmy Crowder and wife Kathy, of Arden, and David Crowder and wife Beth, of Williamsburg; great-granddaughters, Courtney Smith, of Arden, Stephanie Rubino, of Williamsburg, and Katherine Crowder, of Williamsburg; great-grandsons, Jason Stubbs, of Hickory, Eric Crowder, of Arden, Tom Crowder, of Arden, Nicolas Rubino, of Williamsburg, Matthew Crowder, of Williamsburg, and Christopher Crowder, of Williamsburg; and several nieces and nephews, of Hendersonville and Haywood Co. A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Revs. David Plemmons and Ralph Sexton, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Upper Laurel Baptist Church Cemetery, in Madison Co. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Her family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Baptist Church Building Fund, 216 Shelbourne Rd., Asheville, NC 28806.

  2. I worked with Pearl at Pisgah Manor for 4 years. She was such a sweet lady who wasn’t afraid to speak her mind!!! I will miss her so much, she always brought a smile to my face.

  4. My deepest sympathy goes out to all family. Pearl and Floyd were our finest neighbors as children growning up on Pisgah. I have no doubts that she is in heaven celebrating with my grandparents Ora and Ralph Sharpe. Pearl was a wonderful woman. A sincere Christian. And will be missed by all.
