Born in: Princeton , NJ
Resided in: Asheville, NC

Ruth Carrick, 94 passed away on April 7, 2025, at Riverbend Nursing Home in Asheville, North Carolina.

She joins her husband, Bob, and daughter Kathleen, and is survived by her son, Michael “Mike” Carrick, her granddaughter, Lilli, as well as her brother, Richard, his family, and her favorite nephew, Brad.

Ruth was a global adventurer who spent much of her life overseas, having been whisked away from her birthplace of Princeton, New Jersey, to Mexico at the tender age of only 6 weeks old. Ruth and Bob spent the next 40 years in petroleum related employment in exotic locales and far away places like Colombia, Venezuela, Iraq, and Kuwait with a brief stay in the Colorado Rockies where she worked for the Steamboat ski company. Returning to Saudi Arabia, Ruth worked as Supply Chain Manager briefly before retiring to Malaga, Spain.

Ruth embraced a vibrant life with numerous friends around the world and corresponded with them enthusiastically. She was a great hostess and conversationalist and she and Bob were known as the consummate hosts. Upon Bob’s death in 2004 she moved to Asheville and built a new life, reuniting with her beloved daughter, Kathleen. Kathleen passed in 2022, but they had 18 years of rewarding adventures together in scenic Asheville.

To have known Ruth, was to know a gentle and and gracious individual who never uttered an unkind word and genuinely loved people. Everyone who came in contact with Ruth, whether a nurse, caregiver, or stranger came away refreshed by her stories of people she met and travels she took. She remained vigorously engaged in her passions, including knitting, reading, and doing jigsaw puzzles, and word games until her last day, embracing life and making new friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
