Ruby Powell Neal Massey, 90, of Asheville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at her home surrounded by family and friends. A native of Burke Co., Ruby was the daughter of the late John and Lillie Branch Powell. She was also preceded in death by her brother and eight sisters. Additionally, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, Howard Neal and by her second husband, Bruce Massey. Ms. Massey is survived by her daughter, Linda Neal Underwood and husband, Calvin; grandson, Brian Neal Underwood, Sr., and wife Jessica; great-grandson, Brian Neal Underwood, Jr., and Jessie Hamlin; and beloved niece and nephew, Anillia Windt and Arnold Stamey and their families. Ruby dearly loved her family and was a remarkable Sunday School teacher who left her sweet smile and strong belief in God as a legacy. The Celebration of Life service for Ms. Massey will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, at Beverly Hills Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy King officiating. The graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Winklers Grove Church Cemetery, Hickory, NC with Rev. Bert Dixon officiating. Her family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial gifts can be made to CarePartners Hospice, 68 Sweeten Creek Rd # A, Asheville, NC 28803. Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Rd. is assisting the family.
