So sorry to hear about the passing of this wonderful woman. I was in her math classes all four years at TC Roberson. She was known well for being strict but very caring for her students. She was always well thought of and one of my favorite teachers.
I am truly sorry for your loss. She was a remarkable woman. May she rest in peace and may your memories of her keep your spirits lifted.
My prayers and thoughts for the family
Jan and Tony, Carl and I are thinking about you and your sweet families during this time of loss. Your Mom was a very special person to our family and we will miss her.
She was a super nice person. I knew her best from Biltmore Baptist.
My prayers are with her family. Don and Virginia Wick
As a former student, I wish to express my gratitude to Rosa Baldwin she was a talented teacher and true lady. My sincere condolences to her family.
Rosa Lee was a great presence at TCR and I personally learned more than just math as her pupil. I fondly recall her chastising us with ‘You should know that by now, class!’ – and we knew she was right. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Rejoice in the fact that Rosa Lee Baldwin touched and influenced so many young lives.
She was one of the really great teachers. Tough but fair. I was fortunate to be in one of her classes during all four years of my time in High School. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
Our deepest condolences for your lose. Sending thoughts and prayers for you family.

I loved Rosa Lee, although she scared me a bit. Just enough to cause me to focus on Algebra. She was an outstanding teacher and had our best interests at heart. She touched so many lives.
Jan and Tony, Heart felt condolences. Your Mom was truly a great lady that influenced many of us that attended T.C. Roberson. She is remembered fondly as are you during this difficult time

So sorry for your loss, was thinking of her very recently.
Tony and Jan… We saddened to learn of the passing of your Mom. Though I never had her in class, I got to know her well around the halls of TCR, especially during the two years I taught at Roberson in the late 70s. Due to overcrowding, I ‘floated’ classroom and used her room both years. She was quick to offer advice when I would struggle with a student – and it was a good day when she suddenly said to me ‘I keep forgetting you teach here now’ with a big smile on her face. Was always a pleasure to run into her at Ingles or someone over the later years. Know you are all in my thoughts and prayers – and thanks for sharing her with so many of us!
Caring is the word that embodies my memory of this special lady. She was a true teacher in every sense of the word, holding the highest of standards to impart knowledge, yes, but even more than that, to build character, hold students accountable yet encourage and support the development of skills that go far beyond the classroom. Jan, Tony & families, our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time of great loss in your family.
Mrs. Baldwin was one of the very best teachers!!!! May we remember the many lessons she taught us in math and in life. One classy lady!
So sorry for your loss. Your family will be in our prayers. Mrs. Baldwin was one of the best teachers I ever had at TCR. Jan, please let me know if I can do anything to help you out. Sending love and prayers,
Chris, Lisa, Emily, and Zachary Orr
My deepest condolences to the family. She was a wonderful teacher.
She was my favorite teacher in high school. Because of her I loved everything about math leading me to a career in teaching math and then also an engineering degree. My thoughts and prayers are with you as a family. Quite an amazing lady!
My condolences to the family. Rosa Lee was a wonderful, if tough, teacher. I was fortunate to have been in her class at Valley Springs.
My condolences to the entire family. Mrs Baldwin taught me more than just algebra 3 and I have thought and spoken of her often!!
She was a shining example of tough but fair and very caring!
Tony, Jan and Amy. Just learned of the passing of your Mom (Grandmother) today when I stopped by the WRESA office. What a legacy she was. Rosa Lee touched so many lives in so many ways. Her excellence in math was impeccable.
My Mom shared a great friendship with your Mom. It seemed like Mom knew my test grades before I did. Not fair.
My prayers are with your family and may all the memories of such a dedicated educator, Mother and Grandmother be always cherished. May God’s love shine a light on your family.
Jan and Tony,
Carole, Laura, and I are thinking of you and your families. Mrs. Baldwin set an exemplary standard personally and professionally for all of us.
Thank you, Mrs. Baldwin, for being such a wonderful teacher! You made a huge difference in my life.
Rosa Lee Baldwin was one great lady. She was my favorite teacher when I attended T. C. Roberson, class of 1968. She often came across as someone to fear but she had a heart of gold. The world was a better place with someone like her in it.
I will always remember Mrs. Baldwin as one teacher who demanded that her students learn, but also cared deeply about each and every one of us. Teachers like her don’t come around very often. When I left for college she had me totally prepared to handle mathematics at a higher level. The memories of her will always be that she truly was special in every way. We were truly blessed at Valley Springs to have a teacher and friend like her! We have lost a legend!
Deepest Sympathy! Our prayers are with the entire family. We were fortunate to know and share time with this amazing woman.
Rosa Lee Baldwin was my Aunt, my neighbor, and my teacher. She was such a positive influence in my life. She was an incredible educator who would spend countless extra hours with students that needed it. It is hard to imagine how many people benefited from knowing Rosa Lee!
She was a wonderful Aunt and neighbor to me and my sisters. Tony and Jan my heart goes out to you. She is missed by so many.
Rosa Lee Baldwin was a true lady of class and character. She was an amazing teacher, and all of us students respected and admired her. Mrs. Baldwin expected us to succeed in her class, but also in life. I consider her a treasured friend and will miss her greatly. Prayers for peace and comfort.
I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you as you remember and love a lady that means so much to so many people.
Jan and Tony and your families, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Your mom was exemplary in every respect. To those of us in education, she was a role model who set a high standard for teachers and for her students.
My condolences to Mrs. Baldwitn’s family, along with my thoughts and prayers. She was a remarkable lady.
Rosa Lee Baldwin inspired everyone who was fortunate enough to be taught by her. She didn’t just teach us math (and very well, at that); she taught us to push beyond the limits we placed on ourselves, to always put forth our best effort, to expect nothing but excellence, and to aspire to be the very best people we could be – both in and out of the classroom. As a friend of mine once said, ‘That woman could teach math to a rock!’ And she could; she was that good. But the life lessons she instilled in me and so many others made her different other teachers. She was an amazing woman – brilliant, witty, and always putting others before herself. The TCR family has lost one of its greatest educators ever. Class dismissed, Rosa Lee. Job well done.
My favorite teacher. She taught me so much. Loved all her classes. She always challenged you to be better.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. May God give you strength during this time of loss. God bless you.
Denise, Doug, and Marcella Montgomery
Farewell to a great, dedicated teacher who taught math to so many of us at T.C. Roberson High School. I can still hear her saying, ‘Now class, imagine a plane….’ in geometry class. She was one of the last of that generation of great educators in south Asheville. She will be missed.
Rosa Lee’ as her high school students called her among ourselves, was an institution at TC Roberson and a teacher I have remembered for over 30 years. She acted tough but always had a secret smile on her face – especially when she asked us to go to the board to do a math problem she clearly knew we weren’t prepared for. She obviously loved teaching math, loved her students, and loved her family. She has impacted thousands of students through the years, and I know her family is very proud of her. No one will forget her.
Kathleen Crews Williams, TCR ’82
What a great lady!! Mrs. Baldwin will truly be remembered by everyone in the Roberson District!! I remember telling her I became a teacher and she said ( Wilma, Wasn’t that easy,I knew you could do it!!) Always an encourager with love and compassion!! May God bless you and give you strength !!
Such a wonderful lady and educator. I have reflected back on her teachings many times in my life. Jan, Tony and all her family I am sorry for your loss.
May all love and prayers that surround you lift you up at this sad time.
I am sorry to hear about your mom. You and family are in my prayers
Buncombe County has lost an extraordinary educator and a remarkable person. I feel fortunate to have had many excellent teachers at TC Roberson. Rosa Lee Baldwin was my favorite. Jan and Tony, I am so sorry for your loss. Know that the TC Roberson family mourns with you.
It is sad that we, the Roberson family, have lost a giant personality and part of the foundation of TC Roberson High School. Mrs. Baldwin was the inspiration for my becoming a math teacher, she was the reason I attended UNC-Chapel Hill, i.e. she changed my life. Yes, she was tough, but her wry sense of humor was most entertaining. I think I was a little bit fearful of her but it is my experience that some healthy fear is a good thing. I am sad for you, Tony and Jan, but you are carrying on her legacy. There are so many great memories for so many people. Prayers are lifted for your entire family.
I will forever be grateful to Rosa Lee Baldwin. She was an amazing instructor who challenged and inspired me through pre-calculus. She was a pillar of the TC Roberson community and will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.
Rosa Lee Baldwin was an institution. To her family and all who loved her, the entire T.C. Roberson family mourns with you. Her passing is a loss that will reverberate throughout this community.
Mrs. Baldwin was my homeroom teacher and math teacher in high school. Although she was a tough cookie on her students when it came to math she was a very caring and dedicated teacher and she will be greatly missed. I always think about her when I have difficult problems in life and how she taught us to reason through problems in class. May God bless you all during this time..
What a wonderful heart. A teacher with dedication and class. She will always be my favorite teacher. God speed. ❤
I am so sorry for your loss. Prayers for comfort and strength for the family. Rosa Lee was a very sweet person and we enjoyed having her at PACE. Thank you very much for sharing her with us. She will definitely be missed.
I am Joretta Gaddy Chiperfield.
Rosa Lee was my cousin. My Mother and Rosa Lee’s Mother were
sisters. I always admired Rosa Lee growing up. She was always
so kind to me. There were about 10 years different in our ages.
I loved Rosa Lee and her brother Thomas. Many memories
I have of my cousin.
Rosa Lee Baldwin was kind, considerate, strict, and demanding all wrapped up in one package. She was the kind of person that commanded respect by all that knew her not by demand; but, by deeds.
While playing with Tony in an All Star Game, Mrs. Baldwin took care of me and placed a new baby (Jan) in my arms and told me to watch Jan as babies were wonderful creatures full of promise!
Fast forward to graduation night (’72) Tony and I were double dating and Mrs. Baldwin got up at 4AM to give all of us some food, Hot Chocolate, and games to play. Maybe it sounds dull to some but it was an example of her caring for the students around her. Education has lost a great teacher while everyone has lost a friend.
Ms. Baldwin was as straight forward with her classes as any one person could be. She was strict on her requirements for you to be as good a student as you could be and to face your fear of math. You could see the smile on her face when you would go to the board and work through the problem and get it right. Rosa Lee earned your respect as you grew in her class! She will be sorely missed. Jan,Tony and family, I’m sorry for your loss.
Jan,Tony & Family,
We would like to share our condolences to all.
The’ Whole’ Elingburg family remembers your
Mother. The boys all laugh and say, gosh she was
a hard teacher, some say and tuff to the bone.
Thinking of all, we will remember Rosa Lee.
All of the Elingburg family
Dr. Baldwin and family, my thoughts and prayers go out to you in this time of loss. Reading the many notes about your mom, I know her legacy is carried on by you! Blessings,
Baldwin family, thoughts and prayers are with you as you celebrate a home going for this remarkable lady. Her little feet have left huge shoes to fill. Truly, a mathematical improbability. She carries many memories and well wishes with her. I’ll always appreciate how she wanted and expected her students to succeed. Thank you Mrs. Rosa Lee Baldwin!
Our families thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
On behalf of the Upton family, we send our deepest condolences to the Baldwin’s. Your family has meant so much to so many for so long, we appreciate all that you are.
Some teachers leave lasting impressions that you never forget. Mrs. Baldwin was one of those teachers. I still remember one of her favorite phrases of ‘ when you come to class tomorrow, we are going to have a little quiz’. A great, caring teacher.
On behalf of Lynda Wentz and the rest of our family, I would like to express our deepest sympathies and condolences in the passing of Mrs. Baldwin. Rosa Lee Baldwin’s legacy will live on through her years of outstanding teaching, touching so many people’s lives. She was a unique and exceptional person. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all her family during this difficult time.
With heartfelt and deepest sympathy to the family. A great teacher and mentor. Rosa Lee Baldwin was a strict teacher with a ‘Big Heart’. She was a rock for me in my senior year at Valley Springs. I will never forget her kindness!!!
Peace and Gods comfort to all.
My heart and prayers go out to you in your loss. May God bless and comfort you. It is inspiring and encouraging to see that the legacy of Rose Lee’s lifetime investments lives on exponentially in her family and in the lives of those she touched.
