Ronnie Denton Phillips, Sr., 71, of 11 Rhododendron Pl., Asheville, died on Sunday, March 25, 2007, at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center. Mr. Phillips, Sr. was a son of the late Leamon and Millie Keeton Phillips. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Susan Lee Austin; brothers, J.C. and Bill Phillips; and sisters, Alene McDonald and Joan Phillips. Mr. Phillips, Sr. retired as a paint salesman. He was a graduate of Western Carolina University. He was an avid Tennessee fan and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church. Mr. Phillips, Sr., is survived by his son, Ronnie D. (Denny) Phillips, Jr., of Asheville; daughters, Angela Wyatt and husband Tison, of Candler, Kara Shea and husband Matt, of Asheville, and Karen Skeene and husband Dennis, of Moscow, OH; brothers, Hertis Phillips, and wife Terri, and Mike Phillips and wife Dean, all of Oneida, TN; sisters, Veneda Grimes, of Oneida, TN, and Lois Brown and husband Bob, of Middletown, OH; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Phillips, Sr., will be at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery Chapel with the Rev. Janice Buchanan officiating. His family will receive friends 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave.

    I will be thinking and praying for you and the family during this time. I know that this is very hard even though you know that your dad is no longer in any pain. No one is ever ready to give up a loved one but with God’s loving support, the hurt will lessing each day. You will be left with the good memories.
