Roberta Wade Sams
November 20, 1923 ~ October 18, 2015
Resided in:
Asheville, NC
Roberta Wade Sams, 91, of Asheville, went to be with her Lord on Sunday morning, October 18, 2015. She passed into her new life after a brief stay at Solace Hospice in Asheville.
A native of Asheville, she was the daughter of Meeker LeMoyne Wade and Rella Henning Wade. Roberta was a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School and Blanton's Business College. She owned and worked at Wade's TV and Appliances for nearly 50 years.
Roberta grew up in the Mission Alliance Church and was an active member of Acton, Oak Hill, and Skyland United Methodist Churches in her lifetime.
Roberta will be remembered for her powerful spirit, involvement, and great love. Always a supporter of the activities and interests of her children, she helped to found the Land of the Sky Marching Band Festival, drove her daughters to countless music lessons, summer camps, and after school activities, embracing everything in which they became interested.
Roberta loved gathering the Sams family at her house for annual family reunions, until she could no longer host them – but then still looked forward to each and every dinner and reunion that presented an opportunity to stay in touch with, and see family. Even the Wade and Sams family members living farther away were always on her mind, and keeping up with their activities and lives meant a great deal to her.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna and Karen, her four grandchildren: Josh, Jenny, Karen, and Michele; her sister Patricia, her sister-in-law, Joanne, and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, at Skyland United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler, where she will be laid to rest next to her dear, late husband Frank.
Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial donations may be made to Skyland United Methodist Church and their ministries, 1984 Hendersonville Rd., Asheville, NC 28803, or to MemoryCare for their continued support of families facing Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, 100 Far Horizons Lane, Asheville, NC 28803.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting the family.

Dear Family,
The memories your Mom has left with you will help you through the days of missing her. I have wonderful memories as Roberta and I would share our faith, our love for our children, and our church during her visits to Asheville Music Supply. It was always a joy to be in her presence.
May God Bless all of her family and know in your heart….she is right now organizing the next ‘Sams Reunion’ in Heaven. May Christ’s be with you always.
This dear sweet lady will be missed. She was one of the best bookkeepers I have ever seen in action. She always had a smile and kind word for everyone. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
Karen,
I can’t remember not having a memory of our mom in my life! I’m sorry I didn’t see her in recent years but, as you know, I have wonderful lasting memories of times at the Sams’ house. Much love to you – the friend I have had the longest!
Aunt Roberta, what a blessing to have had you in my life. You are the mom that I always aspired to be for my own children, and the loving wife I have always aspired to be for my husband.
Donna and Karen, thank you so much for sharing you wonderful parents with Barb and I. I’m so sorry that I can’t be there to pay respects to your mom. Blessings and love to you both, and take comfort in knowing that your mom is now in the loving arms of our Lord and forever with your dad. Your family is in my prayers.
I am so sorry about your loss of Ms. Sams. May God’s promise to reunite you soon again with your loved one, comfort you in the days ahead (Isaiah 25:8; 26:19).
Although I haven’t seen Roberta in many years, she was in my thoughts quite often. She helped me so much when I came to America and made me feel part of the family, her generosity and kindness were so special to me. Please accept my sincere condolence for you loss, she was a very special person. Francoise Grandjean (Sams).
