Robert Reid Hudson, 88, went to be with Christ on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center.
Robert was born in Asheville and lived in the area his entire life. He was the son of Lawrence Hilliard Hudson and Marie Dermid Hudson. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lla Leet Lance Hudson, of 56 years. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Lawrence H. Jr. and William F., and sister, Dorothy Dodd. Robert graduated from Lee Edwards High School in 1954 and went on to study at Brevard College (where he met Lla Leet).
Robert was a dedicated employee of the Biltmore Company where he served in security. He loved his job and his outgoing personality and warm smile made guests feel welcome. After more than 20 years of loyal service, he retired from the Estate. Soon after, he came out of retirement and worked for the City of Asheville Parks and Recreation for 16 years.
Robert trusted in Christ for his salvation and was a committed member of West Asheville Baptist Church. He especially enjoyed the fellowship of the Through the Bible Sunday School class. He was a faithful husband, a loving father and grandfather, and most recently a very proud great-grandfather. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Hudson, and wife Rebekah; grandchildren: Lacy Guerlain Condy and husband Steven, Lance Phillips Hudson, Lyndi Elizabeth Hudson, and Landrey Ellen Duncan and husband Owen; and two great grandchildren: Ada Florence Condy and Hudson Alexander Condy. He is also survived by his sister Eleanor (Betty) Kasch and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff who cared for Robert while he was at the Keever Solace Center.
A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hendersonville with Dr. Stan Welch, Rev. Jeffrey Hudson, and Rev. Jamie Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, where several of his grandchildren currently study.

Prayers and condolences for Bobby’s family.
Such a faithful servant of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Prayers being lifted up. God bless and comfort the family. We love you.

Mr. Hudson was such a joy to be around! Numerous evenings and weekends on the softball field while growing up are among my most fond memories of him. He was always so kind and supportive of West Asheville Baptist softball! Jeff, you and dear Rebekah have been in my prayers for months, and I’ll be doubling down as you are dealing with this tremendous loss. I’m comforted by the knowledge that your Dad is healed, pain free and in Glory…and also by the knowledge that we will see him again one day soon. I’m grateful for your friendship, guidance and our conversations over the years my friend…may God bless your family with peace and strength in the coming days and weeks. Mom sends her love and prayers as well. She thought a lot of your father!
My prayers are with you brother Jeff and Rebekah and all Rock’s extended family. I too remember all the times Rock was sitting in the stands watching Jeff play ball, disputing every umpires call, in a humorous and non-confrontational manner of course. He was such a steady man, always doing the right thing and willing to help anyone.
He will be greatly missed but now joins Lla Leet, his loving bride (and second mom to me for many years).
Jeff, so sorry for the loss of your sweet dad. Thank you for closing Lisa s door yesterday. We were in such a hurry to get to Hendersonville my crazy mind just left me. Thanks again. You guys are wonderful neighbors for Lisa. God Bless You.
Our prayers are with Bobby’s family. He lived a good Christian life. A number of us West Asheville kids knew him as “HawK Eye” as a scout leader at West Asheville Methodist Church where we met. He encouraged us to attend MYF on Sundays and then go to the evening service at Calvary Baptist Church where they could really sing the hymns well. He did a lot to help mold us into the successful people we are today. God bless you Bobby. Rest in peace.
Charlie, thank you for this glimpse of my father that I didn’t know about. Thank you for praying for my family.
Jeff and Rebekah,
We are sending our prayers and love your way. Your Dad was so special! We too have fond memories of him cheering us on at the Erwin sporting events. Bob always wanted to make you laugh and he always cared about what you had to say. May your next few days be filled with sweet memories and know that we care and love you guys! Lawrence and LaDonna Sluder and ( The Penland Crew)!
Bob was my neighbor for many years. I loved him like a member of my family. I must have spent a thousand hours in his driveway playing basketball with Jeff. He was so kind to my family. I can’t wait to see him again in the presence of our Lord and Savior!
Sorry to learn of Mr. Hudson’s passing, rejoicing knowing that he was surely a Child of God. Such an outstanding Godly Man. I will sorely miss our banter about my golf score never getting any higher than 200 though I tried weekly to do “better” than the mere 200. Maybe next week I could top 210! RIP my friend, we will meet again.
