Robert "Bob" McGill, 79, of Israel Road, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2011. A native of Gaffney, SC, he was the son of the late William W. and Margaret Elizabeth Kearse McGill. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, William W. McGill II, and Edward H. McGill. Mr. McGill was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was a former officer with the Town of Biltmore Forest Police Department. He was a member of the Hominy Masonic Lodge and Pole Creek Baptist Church. Mr. McGill was a devoted, loving, husband and father, and was an avid golfer and enjoyed woodworking and civil war history. He and his wife of 58 years, Margie Venecia Pitman McGill, met when they were children at the Connie Maxwell Children's Home in Greenwood, SC.; In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jennie Blevins and husband, Tom, of Arden and Elizabeth McCain and husband, Robert, of Asheville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Thurman officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The Buncombe County Honor Guard Memorial Team will provide honors for Mr. McGill. Area police and fire friends are invited to attend as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

  5. Marg and family: Ive missed Bob for several months and will continue to miss him. He was a dear friend. We spent many hours together on the golf courses around Asheville and in SC. Thank God for making a way for us to see him again some sweet day. Our love and sympathy to you and your family.

  28. Jane & I were saddened when we received a call while in Texas that Bob had passed away. Our prayers are with each of you as you face each new day. We know that he is in a better place but he will be missed. We are available for each of you if you should need anything.
