Robert Franklin “Bob” Holbrook, 52, of 177 Holbrook Road, Candler, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Holbrook was a native of Buncombe County and was a son of the late James Alexander Holbrook. He was a former superintendent at the Federal Paper Mill in Richmond, VA.

He is survived by his mother, Hettie Upton Holbrook; two daughters, Nina Elizabeth Holbrook of Richmond, VA and Kelly Astudillo of Williamsburg, VA; one brother, David Michael Holbrook and his wife Lynn of Stafford, VA; an aunt, Judy Holbrook, an uncle, William Long, a cousin, Linda Rickman, a niece, Jodi Holbrook, and a nephew and his wife, Scott and Sara Holbrook.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Kim Higgins officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

  1. Bobby and I were football buddies and we became close as members of the Enka teams in 64 and 65. I have thought of Bobby often over the years and wish we could have gotten together. I will always remember his sense of humor and good spirit. He was a good man and will be missed.

  5. I never saw Mr. Holbrook….but Nina awlays talks about him and i was looking
    forward to someday meeting him…but i guess it too late….my prayers go out
    to all that knew him…i know this is a great loss to all who knew him….

  6. -I never met Mr. Holbrook, although I had seen pictures. I know that he had to of been somewhat of a GREAT person to have a child as awesome as Nina. He made her so happy when she was little, and I’m sure he will look down on her as she grows and be so proud of her. My condolences are given…

  8. I never got the chance to meet Mr. Holbrook. I met Nina only a short time ago and learned of her loss and wondered what he was like. Would he like me? What kind of man was Mr. Holbrook? There is no doubt in my mind he was a great man. I can see that through the influences he has had on Nina. Whether the influences were bad or good Nina has become a better person because of them. I want to thank him for raising a great daughter and an excellent friend.
