Riley Russell Sams, 90, of Whipperwill Lane, Leicester, died Friday, October 2, 2009, following a short illness.
A native of Madison Co., Mr. Sams was a son of the late Clarence and Altha Barnes Sams. He was also preceded in death by two brothers.
A retired tobacco farmer, Mr. Sams was a member of Georgetown Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Sams is survived by his wife Vergie Sams; daughter, Audrey Turbyfill and husband Kirt, of Leicester; sons, Charles Sams and David Sams and wife Debbie, all of Leicester; sisters, Sally Frisbee, of Marshall, and Ruth King, of Leicester; grandchildren, Anthony Turbyfill, Sheletha Smith, Tonja Hall, Chad Turbyfill, and Chance Sams; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service for Mr. Sams will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Georgetown Baptist Church with the Rev. Lee Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons and friends.
His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church, and at other times will be at the home of the daughter, 53 Overlook Dr., in Leicester.

To all of the Family of Bro.Riley Sams I know its a hard time right now but i know he is with Bro.Gene Owens and Jesus Resting Bro.Riley is Really not dead him and my papaw Gene Owens is in a deep sleep and when Jesus comes back to get the rest of us to go home with him he will bring those that are sleep with him and we all will meet again on the other side of jordan and May God gives yall streghth in this time of sorrow love yall guys
