Richard Jay Silver, 84, of Candler, died Sunday, August 14, 2016.
A native of Canton, NC, he was a son of the late James Dimey and Fannie Sisk Silver. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Rubena Silver, brothers Arlie and J.D. Silver, and sister Millie Hoglen.
Mr. Silver was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from BASF/American Enka after thirty-one years of service. He was a western style square dance recording artist and caller. He was a volunteer fireman with the Enka Vol. Fire Dept., and was also a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his daughter, Risé Silver; sons, Richard Jay Silver, Jr. and wife Patty, and James Robin Silver; grandchildren, Jay Silver and wife Lyndi, and Jarred Silver; great-grandchildren, Weston Jay Silver and Embree Kate Silver; and sisters, Winifred Leatherwood and Doris Clark.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family would like to give special thanks to caregivers Sonja Hyatt Allen and Nancy King, and the management and staff of Brookdale Walden Ridge.

I am sorry to hear of Richard’s passing. I worked with him in the Research Dept. there at Enka, and was on the fire dept. with him. Richard was a great guy and I know you miss him. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

Richard’s lively and entertaining calling. He kept the organization alive for many years.
I extend my sympathy to the Silver family. I always thought a lot of Richard and was glad he was beside me playing football, the Mule.
