Rev. Hubert Buckner

Rev. Hubert Buckner, 84, of Leicester, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 28, 2016. Mr. Buckner was born in Madison Co., and spent most of his adult life in Buncombe Co. He was a son of the late Glenna Walker Buckner and Mert Buckner. He was also preceded in death by sister Carol Bates, half brother Junior Sams, and brother James Buckner. Mr. Buckner was a retired farmer. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Ruth Bailey Buckner; sister, Carrie Davis; brothers, Billy (Barbara) Buckner, and Wayne Buckner; sons, Jimmy, Danny, Phillip (Kim), and Larry (Sharon) Buckner; daughters, Shirley (Mike) and Cathy (Phillip) Ellege; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. The funeral service for Mr. Buckner will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Revs. David King and Gary Fender officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home, and at other times at the residence. Flowers are appreciated, or donations may be made to the family.
