Rebecca Ruth “Becky” Vaughn, 46, died Sunday, October 20, 2002, in Mars Hill. Becky was born in Asheville September 6, 1956. She was a former resident of Western Carolina Center, Morganton, for 26 years and was a resident of Blue Ridge Homes in Mars Hill for the past 14 years. She was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Greenville, SC, and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Asheville. She was employed at Mountain Opportunities Center of Madison County. Becky was a torch runner at the 1999 Buncombe County Special Olympics and was a gold medal winner for several years. She was the beloved daughter of Jo Ann “Jody” Dalton Vaughn of Greenville, SC and the late William E. Vaughn, Jr. and Joan Sherrill Moretz and Thomas H. Moretz of Lawrenceville, GA. She is also survived by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Cindy and Michael Powell of Lawrenceville, GA, Marsha and Scott Brown of Snellville, GA, and Brenda and Kyle Ingram of Dacula, GA; aunts and uncles Freda and Carl Embler, Norma Martin, Larry and Sandy Sherrill, and Eloise Dalton as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins, many loving friends and three very special friends, Vicky Ogle, Jessie Gentry and Wayne Edwards. Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm Thursday at Pisgah View Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Buddy Corbin officiating. Her family will receive friends from 1:00 - 1:45 pm Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. Memorials may be made to Camp Lutheridge’s Camp for the Mentally Challenged, 2511 Hendersonville Road, Arden, NC 28704, or to Special Olympics, PO Box 25968, Raleigh, NC 27611.
