Opal Frances Brooks

Opal Frances Brooks, 90, of 247 Bacon Drive, Old Fort, died Tuesday, December 6, 2005, at McDowell County Hospital. Mrs. Brooks was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Joseph Burgin and Stella Case Austin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Brooks, who died in 1984, and by four sisters and three brothers. She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Reed and her husband, Clarence, of Old Fort; two sons, J. D. Brooks and his wife Katherine of Asheville and Billy Austin Brooks and his wife, Christena, of Old Fort; a brother, Joe Austin of Asheville; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Philip Wishon and Doug Huffman officiating. Burial will be at Bent Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
