NORMAN EARL BELL Fletcher- Norman Earl Bell Sr., 79, of Fletcher, died on Thursday, August 4, 2016. Born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, Norman grew up and lived in Buncombe County. He was a graduate of Enka High School, served in the National Guard, the Asheville Police Department, the Asheville Fire Department, and retired from Gerber Inc. Norman was a son of the late Robert Thomas Bell and Laura Chastain Bell. Norman is survived by his wife, Dora Owen Bell; brother, Donald Robert Bell (Carolyn) of Franklin; brother, Thomas Jackson Bell of Enka; sister, Ruth Bell Shaffer (Donald) of Candler; son, Norman Earl Bell Jr. of Enka; son, Robert Vance Bell (Jan) of Asheville; daughter, Loretta McCall Rachels (Chuck) of Arden; (8) grandchildren: Christie Bell, Laura Bell, Peyton Bell, Alec Bell, Logan Bell, Lynden Bell, Alicia Rachels, Jason Rachels; (2) great-grandchildren: Aidan Schulz, Riley Ray; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Out of respect for Norman's wishes, the family will be holding a private memorial. However, those who wish to honor his memory may make a donation to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue (www.bwar.org). Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

  4. Well, I am sure that our son Greg Schleicher and Norman are having a wonderful reunion in heaven! There was not a kinder, sweeter, nicer man than Norman Bell. I remember all the times my boys were at the Rachel home growing up, and how often Norman and Dora were there too. Norman loved kids. I know how much his family will miss this fine man. But as Christians we know we will all be together again. Dora, Norman will be missed, so sorry for your loss. Please come to the wedding if you feel up to it. Sue and Gene Schleicher
