Noel Baker Hawkins, 78, of Leicester, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at his residence after a period of declining health. Born in Greenwood, SC on February 13, 1945, he was the son of the late Ernest Baker Hawkins and Lois Ouzts Hawkins. Noel was predeceased also by a brother, Kevin A. Hawkins.

Much of his early childhood was spent in Orlean, France, being the son of a career military father.

Noel was a graduate of Greenwood High School and attended Clemson University, majoring in Electrical Engineering. His career in the telecommunications industry spanned over forty years, the last twenty being with Sprint in the corporate office at Kansas City.

Noel is survived by his wife, Dorothy Brown Hawkins, of the home; sons, Sean Allan Hawkins (Tracy) of The Villages, FL, Kiel Evan Hawkins (Jennifer) of Hendersonville, and Jason Neall Hawkins (Samantha) of Phoenix. Additional survivors include a sister, Penny Russo (Bruce) and sister-in-law, Jan A. Hawkins, of Greenwood. Noel was very proud of his six grandchildren which are Seth, Shane, Aria, Quinn and Ivy Hawkins, and Rosalie Gersztyn.

Memorial services are scheduled for Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Noel was a member of Newfound Baptist Church, Leicester, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Madison County Camp of the Gideon’s International at PO Box 1182, Marshall, NC 28753.

    • Sorry for your loss of Noel.
      My mother Diane was married to Noel before Dottie and he was quite the character.
      Unfortunately he was not good to my sons who considered him grandpa for 20 years. 3 amazing boys who could have benefitted by his support after the loss of their grandmother would have been amazing.
      But he never even gave them the trunk contents that were their great grandparents as he had promised or did he ever contact them.
