Nina Sparrow Johnson

Nina Sparrow Johnson, 101, of 100 Riceville Rd., Asheville, formerly of 18 Mountain Terrace, died Sunday, January 27, 2008, at the Laurels of Summit Ridge. A native of Wildwood, GA, Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the late Jefferson Davis and Flora Mae Ballard Sparrow. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Eugene Johnson, who died in 2001. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1935. She is survived her sons, Gene Johnson and wife Joan, of Asheville, and Alfred L. Johnson and wife Peggy, of Niceville, FL; 10 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Rev, Don N. Welborn officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. Her family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
