Mya Grace Phillips, 7, of Candler, arrived in Heaven on Thursday, July 14, 2016. She was able to run once again, and no better place to run than into the arms of Jesus. All of her pain and sickness were immediately healed as she looked into the eyes of her Savior. In her final days on Earth, Mya was surrounded by those she loved. Encouragement poured in from the lives she had touched during her very short but remarkable time with us.
The time we had with her was not enough but we are so thankful that God richly blessed us during our 7 years with her. She taught us so much. Mya's determination, strength, love, and beautiful smile never faded. Her courage reminds us all to cherish each day with those we love and to take nothing for granted. She had a love for Jesus and for her family that radiated from her sweet spirit. We will always be so honored that she was a part of our lives, and we will never be the same because of her. Our home and hearts will forever be filled with her laughter and memories.
Mya is loved so much by her family. She is the daughter of Logan and Kelly Thurman Phillips. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her sister, Cora; brothers, Isaiah and Rylan; paternal grandparents, Royce and Gwenda Phillips; maternal grandparents, Pastor Dennis and Marilyn Thurman; great-grandmother, Margaret Thurman; uncles, Tyson Phillips (Kelly), Chris Thurman (Amber), Caleb Thurman, and Corey Thurman; aunt, Kasey Frady (Jeff); and many cousins and friends.
Mya's life will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, at her church, Pole Creek Baptist, with her Papa, Pastor Dennis Thurman, officiating. Interment will follow in the church's cemetery.
Her family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Dearest family, Few people touch so many lives in such a deep and abiding way as Mya’s life has. She and her Uncle Rory may not have had long lives but those lives touched so many for Jesus!! May you each one feel the arms of our LORD around you and know always that He is with you and will sustain you through all things. Our love and prayers are, have been and always will be with each and every one of you!

I am sorry for the family and friends she had to leave behind.I think that is the hardest part of passing…having to leave the ones you love behind. I truly believe we do go on to a much more peaceful place…with all my heart I know you will see her again. Her soul radiates that love and compassion…I noticed right away in her face as does yours Kelly. Both of you are so brave and fearless. It takes that certain beautiful soul to be able to handle this loss in the way that you have.

I remember seeing Mya at Pole Creek, while visiting my Mom. The Handbell Choir was performing and Mya sat with Logan and her brother. We had heard about her cancer diagnosis, but all I could think was you would never know. She was smiling and enjoying the music so much. She fought that horrible disease with the true courage of a child of God. Her strength and faith as well as yours touched so many lives. She will never hurt again. She is home. Our thoughts and prayers remain with you all as you mourn the loss of Mya. She will be your Guardian Angel until you are reunited with her in Heaven. God Bless you ALL..

We have been praying for you all during this time and have continued to do so since Mya’s passing. I only knew of Mya through facebook. The family is in my heart and prayers. I am so sorry for your loss. I was hoping God had a different plan. Love and light.
We didn’t know Mya except via Facebook but one look at that sweet face you just knew she was and is special. What joy she is having in Heaven with Jesus whom she loved so much. We pray that she has touched many souls to come to know Jesus how could you not with a messenger like her. Never got to meet Mya Grace was following her journey through family members. My family prayed for her everyday. She was always in my thoughts, and has been a sweet inspiration of fighting a horrible disease. She was a real trouper and always smiling. She has touched so many lives with her smile and unbelievable strength. I can’t even imagine your pain but no that God loves your whole family and in time we will understand. We have been following your difficult journey for some time as a friend of a friend. Our thoughts and prayers have been with you all along and continue to be. Few words can I say what, as a mother, I feel for you having to let go of your baby, but we so admire your strength and faith and relationship with God. We have been reminded to be grateful for all of our blessings and each day together. May peace be with you all.
Prayers for your family. Mya was a shinning example of love and strength. She touched so many lives with her example. Now she is healed, which I had prayed for her to be given on earth, but apparently God needed her home with him. She will be always remembered for her beautiful spirit, she truly endured to the end, a lesson she taught so many of how it is done with strength and love. .

I never had the opportunity to meet Mya Grace but I followed her story on Facebook. I fell in love with that sweet girl. I am so saddened by the loss of such a precious soul but so thankful for the promise of heaven where I know she is healed. My prayers have been and will continue to be with the family. We can question why such an innocent child was taken so soon, and spend a lifetime never knowing the answer. Sometimes the loss of a child can make us question our faith, but never once have I read anything about any of you losing faith in God. I have been so blessed through the many updates from Mya’s mom and papa that showed me just how strong a faith you all have.
Mya, and all of you have made my faith stonger, and made a difference in my life. Mya’s sweet smile and her love for God is also making a difference in the many lives she touched everyday.
I know she will be missed so much and no words I can say will even come close to making your hearts not hurt or your pain and grief any better.
I am praying for God’s love to surround you, and His Mighty arms to hold you and give you peace and comfort that only He can give.

I am so blessed by this little girl, and know what it feels like to lose a precious Grandbaby. To Mya’s family:
It has been a true blessing to follow Mya’s story over the last few weeks and a true honor to storm the gates of Heaven on her behalf. I will praise God for His ultimate healing in her life and will continue to pray for His love and comfort and strength and endurance and guidance for your family.
Mya Grace’s story has humbled me as a mother and has reminded me of God’s promise, that our days are numbered before we were even born. My life, my world as I know it right this second, could change in a moment. I NEED to choose each moment who I will serve and need to do a better job of making memories, soaking up and cherishing moments, and truly teaching and impacting my two little girls for Christ every single day!
If there is one thing that God has opened my eyes to over the last year or so, it is that our children are not truly ours, but His… They are His children that He chooses to gift us with and we are given the daily choice of honoring, obeying, and praising Him through our parenting and our moments spent raising His children or we can choose the alternative. I am blessed by the faith and hope and obedience that you portrayed as you experienced the greatest storm of your life.
I pray that God sincerely blesses your family in the days and weeks and years to come! Thank you for allowing me, a total stranger but family in Christ, to follow your journey and to pray for you!

I hated that she was in so much pain & that even to touch her hurt her. Now she is so free of all that ugly old pain, in a new body & praising God! The Lord needed her sweet disposition and bubbly personality in heaven. He only knows what that purpose was, but His timing is flawless. Your family has been through much over the months and recent days. The Lord will sustain you and see you through. For our deepest pain we have the Lord’s closest embrace. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Mya is with her Lord. Oh, how Jesus loves the children…

I have been following the entire time Mya was sick. I have posted it on my Face Book page and ask about 8 ministers I know to have their congregations pray. Nothing I can say will help and I know after loosing my mother (Marie), brother (George) and grandmother (Ola Brown) in just a few months. It seemed like it would never end. I pray that God will give you comfort and understanding. Its so hard to do at a time like this. We will understand one day because of our faith that its Gods will and not ours. Just know that many are praying for you that you don’t even know.

I met Mya on two different occasions.. Both in the hospital during treatments… Both times she had a huge smile on her face….such a beautiful little girl inside and out… So glad I met her. She touched many lives in her short time on this earth.. God brought us an angel when she was born and I know He was so happy to get her back.. Mya’s faith and testimony to living her life for Jesus to her fullest capabilities is truly amazing. Still today, she touches such a special place in my heart. Her story has strengthened my faith ten fold if not more. What a truly amazing and courageous little girl you have who was able to touch thousands of hearts and turn people back to God, and prayer.

I can’t begin to imagine what you’re feeling right know, but I hurt along with you. I have prayed since this journey began. We all prayed for healing. What’s hard for us to understand is that she was healed, just not the way we all prayed . We can rest assured that Mya HAS been healed and that she will never have pain again, EVER! What she will have is unspeakable joy. What she will never have is another tear, because our God said he will wipe away every tear. I love you all.
Your lovely little girl’s short life is a beautiful testament to the peace only Our Heavenly father can give during this time. No words can help. I pray for your family. I lost my daughter and only child to large cell non Hodgkins lymphoma. Often curable hers was unresponsive to chemo. We found out when she was 4 months pregnant with her and her husband’s first and only child. She was 28 and left her 16 month old son behind. (My little piece of her) Parents should not have to say goodbye to their children…it is not the natural way life should go. I expect that you will go through a multitude of emotions. Let me just say that there is no time limit on grief. Cry as often as you need to and don’t feel like you have to be strong all the time. You have lost your heart. It is okay to grieve. George and I have been following Mya on Facebook since the beginning. We would check in everyday for her progress. Kelly has been such a strong mother through all this and keeping everyone updated. We did not know Mya but know Pastor Thurman , Marilyn and Royce Gwenda Phillips. Our hearts go out to all the family and we will continue to pray for all of you. So sad for you precious family-So happy for you sweet Mya that you’re in the greatest place there will ever be….Heaven!! My life is definitely changed by just knowing her by way of Facebook. She was, is, & always will be a beautiful little angel that’s completed her course in life, & has made her way to our eternal home. You enjoy Heaven, Mya & even tho I didn’t know u down here, when I get there will you just run up to me and introduce me to Jesus—–✝ I love you family. We will all be together soon. I know she was the sweetest child by the shine in her eyes, I didn’t know her personally only on Facebook I know Jesus picks the most beautiful for his garden and he chose the most gorgeous heaven is shining brighter with her beauty. It us the most awesome thing to go to sleep in Jesus and catch you breath in heaven. Shine bright little one talk to the moon lay on the fluffy clouds and dance with the Stars, we will soon join you take care of all the little animals, to the bravest little angel. Prayers for your family for peace, strength, and blessing.
Prayers for the family in the loss of your precious child. But oh the joy and comfort you receive in knowing that you will one day see her again in Heaven above. Mya and family have been in my prayers for months, her family will continue to be so.
I am so very sorry for your loss. To lose a child is beyond my comprehension; your pain must be immeasurable. Being a spiritual family, I know that you will find comfort in the scriptures. A favorite of mine is the account at Luke 8:49-56. There we are given the real life account of Jesus resurrecting a young girl back to the arms of her parents. We are promised that same type of resurrection, when all sickness, death and pain will be gone forever. (Revelation 21:4) Though your time with Mya was far too short, in the near future you’ll have her forever. I know you are grieving now, but I hope these scriptures will strengthen and comfort you though this difficult time.
