Millard Daniel Greene

Millard Daniel Greene Fletcher–Millard Daniel Greene, 91, of Fairview, was promoted from Universal Healthcare to Heaven on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 following a long period of declining health. A native of Buncombe County and a lifelong resident of the Fairview community, Millard was a son of the late D.J. and Annie Greene. He was also preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. Millard was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and was retired from Cranston Print Works. He was a WW II veteran, having proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. Millard is survived by his faithful wife of 59 years, Lila Riggins Greene; two step-daughters, Betty McIntyre and her husband, Bruce, of Horse Shoe and Janette Nanney of Piedmont, AL; three sisters, Thelma Wright of Fairview, Barbara Dean Lewis of Fairview and Shirley Sales of Oakley; one brother, Samuel "S.E." Greene of Fletcher; six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 20, 2012 at Tweed's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside service at Oak Grove Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Universal Healthcare, 86 Old Airport Road, Fletcher, NC 28732 or to Oak Grove Baptist Church, 1552 Cane Creek Road, Fletcher, NC 28732. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
