Mildred was born on May 15, 1926 in Madison County, to the late William Riley Capps and Ollie Cody Capps. She lived her entire life in Madison and Buncombe counties. She graduated from Walnut High School and moved to Asheville shortly after, where she lived with her sisters in West Asheville and worked at the Asheville Hosiery Mill.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; sisters, Virginia Towe, Meryl Coggins and Kathleen Capps. She is survived by her son, Vernon Austin (Joan) of Ocean Breeze, FL; daughter, Dianna Attaway (Steve) of Hendersonville, NC; brother, Robert Capps of Asheville, NC; granddaughter, Desiree Clonch (Chris) of Palm City, FL; grandsons, Wes Attaway (Melanie) of West Chicago, IL and Matt Attaway (Lindsay) of Issaquah, WA; great-grandchildren, Charlee Clonch, Austin, Josiah, Samantha and Seth Attaway.
The family wishes to thank her friends and caregivers in the Ardenwoods community for their love and care for her in these last seven years.

Dear family,
I am deeply saddened by the grief that you are feeling.
Knowing of God’s love for you, continue looking to him when ” he will wipe all tears from our eyes, death, pain, and suffering will be no more. ” – Revelation 21:3,4
He says death is an ” enemy that will be brought to nothing. – 1 Corinthians 15:26
How comforting to know that this will be a thing of the past and through Christ Jesus a resurrection for our loved ones.

Remembering Mildred from our years at Square D and more recently from her stay at Heather Glen when I entertained the residents with my music program. It was always so good to see her and re-live the good times at the Big D. She was a sweet lady who will be missed. My condolences to Dianna and all family members.
Mildred was a very special lady to me. I work at HeatherGlen where she resided till her final days. When I had spare time not doing activities I would sit and pray with her she always had her bible open. When I was asked to the devotional at work I came to her and she told me to speak from my heart. Mildred always gave me a uplifting word she will truly be missed.
