Michel Ashley Pillay, 71, of Fletcher, died Monday, August 8, 2016, at Asheville Health and Rehabilitation.
Mr. Pillay was born November 19, 1944 in Figi. He worked as a chemist.
Surviving are his daughter, Angela Young; son, Anthony Pillay and wife Noel; and 7 grandchildren.
A memorial service for Mr. Pillay will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for one hour following the service.

Michel was my friend. He would come to my farm, with a long-nosed shovel in hand to help out or sing me Elvis songs when I worked..always wearing his signature white cowboy hat. He was boisterous on occasion but if you knew him it was part of his ‘show’ and you could laugh with him. He was such a unique character. God bless.
My husband & I always enjoyed talking with Michel. He would sing boy scout and other songs to us so that we could hear how our USA version varied with his foreign version.
We were always impressed with the garden space he made along side the road. He was very clever. We will miss his spirit.
