Arden- Merry Fontaine, 86, of Arden, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at CarePartners Solace Center.
A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Maggie Marlow Taylor. Merry was also preceded in death by her husband Paul Fontaine, who died in 2015 as well as two brothers and one sister.
Merry was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was kind, caring and loving and helped her family and others whenever and however she could. She loved animals and always had dogs and sometimes cats, picking up strays and giving them a home. She enjoyed being outdoors and following retirement, she stayed busy working in her yard. To relax, she sat on her porch and watched the squirrels, birds and other wildlife. Her passing leaves a hole in our lives and she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Culp of Arden and Debra Fontaine of Fairview; one grandson, Michael Fontaine; two great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Tristen Fontaine and their mother Jennifer Grant; brother-in-law, Richard Charnock of Waverly, TN as well as several nieces and nephews.

I loved Merry. We worked together in the mailroom. One time we both won tickets to see Alabama from WWNC radio. Me and my husband met Merry and Paul and sat together at the concert. She was very frugal and very generous. I miss her a lot.
So sorry to hear of Merry’s passing. I knew her while working at DSS. She was a good person who worked hard at her job. I know she will be missed. Prayers for her family & friends.
Many fond memories of Merry. Sending you light and love as your navigate this difficult time.
I have so many fond memories of time shared with Merry at MountainCare. I’m grateful she was a part of our family there. She will be greatly missed. I’m also thankful to have shared a friendship with Karen and want you to know I’ll be praying for your family.
I also worked with Merry for several years at DSS. She was such a hard worker and kept everyone on their toes. Heaven has gained a beautiful soul.
