Guestbook

  1. Mother and I send our prayers for God’s love to be felt all around you as you say your good-byes to dear Melody. She was already walking with God here on Earth, so we know He is taking care of her now. Our deepest sympathies for your loss.
    Love, Elise and Lucile

  2. Our love and sympathy go out to all the family. Melody was very special to us, and we have fond memories of laughter, fellowship, and especially of sharing stories and working with her in the church garden last summer. She will always be in our hearts.

  3. Barry, Drew, Jewel, Charles, Tracey, Brian, Misty and everyone. We have lost a shining star in our lives. I have been blessed to be her friend and in turn blessed to be welcomed in your family. If I only could, I would take your pain and spare you this time in your life. I love you all so much! Sheila, James, Erin, Kyle & Cole

  4. It was such a joy to know Melody. Even though I am deeply saddened by her loss, I take comfort in special memories like our pretend cruise, Bible School where she had us try sculpting with our eyes closed, and a Bible School rap that she performed. Those good memories all show her brightness and sense of humor and still make me smile. Wishing you much peace and comfort during this difficult time.

  5. I am so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my prayers during this time of sorrow.
    Lisa Quinn Souther and family

  17. Melody epitomized her name; that is, she provided melody and a sense of time to her students’ writing efforts. Many of the students in my program, and in other programs, speak so well of her uncanny knack in the classroom. She was phenomenal as a sharing instructor and leaves a vacuum here at Blue Ridge Community College. You have my heartfelt sympathy and earnest prayers as you go through this most difficult time.

  18. BRCC will not be the same without Melody. She was so creative and caring and fun. I can’t begin to say how much I will miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

  20. I am so sorry for your loss. My best wishes go out to Barry and his son and rest of the family at this trying time. Deepest sympathies and condolences.

  21. Barry, Drew, and family of Melody,

I am so deeply sorry for this shocking loss. I had the pleasure of having an office right next door to Melody since I was hired in January 2011. I got to see her everyday and she always greeted any of us with a smile. After I knew her a while I would sit in her office and she would stand in my doorway and we would talk about anything. One day she said she was bored and asked me to do a cartwheel for her entertainment. She didn’t think I would, but I obliged and did a cartwheel in the hallway for her.
Her response was, ‘Can that really be counted as a cartwheel?’ She critiqued it! She was so funny and had a way to always make us laugh, no matter our stress level. She is absolutely irreplaceable and I am going to miss her terribly.

Again, I am so deeply sorry for your loss.

    David Blevins

  22. I worked with Melody at BRCC. As a fellow instructor, I admired her passion for teaching and interest in making her students successful. She will be greatly missed. My prayers are with you in this difficult time. I know you will find comfort in your cherished memories.

  23. I will forever remember the day that my mom (Melody’s aunt Gladys) received the dreaded phone call that Melody’s mother had been killed in a devastating auto accident. Melody was a baby and as I watched her grow up and become such an outstanding young lady I always loved seeing her and catching up, when we had family gatherings (most of the time at funeral gatherings) and sadly, now her own ….Barry, and Drew I know you know she is with our grandparents, her Mom and Dad, and other loved ones. You will always miss her but Oh….. what a joyous reunion we will have when we all get to join her for ever and ever….in our Heavenly home.. please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers… Love and Prayers.. I will miss you Melody….Your Cousin Karen

  24. My sincerest condolences go out to Melody’s family and loved ones—of which there were bound to be many. I knew Melody back when she was a very involved student here at BRCC and saw her passion and love of life. What a great wit and inspiration she has been within the Blue Ridge Community College family. Thank you for sharing Melody with us. Praying for God’s peace and comfort during these difficult days to come. May memories always keep Melody close in your hearts.

  25. It’s so hard for me to believe Melody is not here, just around the corner from my office. Melody inspired me to be a better teacher. Her creative ideas were just beginning to find their way into my classroom. Other English faculty were saying much the same. Melody outdid us all in innovative teaching, and just plain fun in the classroom. Her influence and humor are greatly missed.

  26. Barry, Drew and Melody’s family,
I am so sorry to learn of Melody’s sudden passing and my thoughts and prayers are with you. Childhood friends always remain close to your heart regardless of the miles that end up between you. We used to refer to each other as the other ‘Melody’ and for a while she, Laurie Winters and I were the three musketeers. She introduced me to how incredibly funny a dry sense of humor can be and whenever I am around someone with that sense of humor I think of her. I will sorely miss our exchange of Christmas cards where we caught up with each others lives. I hope to see her again in heaven!

  27. We’re so sorry to hear about the loss of a lovely woman, wife, mother and friend of so many. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families as they seek comfort in this moment of grief and loss.

  28. Mrs. Lindsey was an amazing person ave she touched the lives of many. She has influenced my life greatly. She will be missed by everyone. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

  29. Barry and Drew, please know that Melody made a great difference in the lives of others. I knew her as a student and encouraged her when she applied for her teaching job here. She radically supported student success and she will be sorely missed. I am proud to have known her and just wanted you to know how much she meant to us at Blue Ridge. I pray for divine comfort for you and supernatural peace. May wonderful memories of her carry you through. Alice Crisp

  30. Barry, I am so sorry for your loss. I pray that God will provide strength and encouragement through these difficult times.

  31. I am sorry for your loss. Just remember the good times you had with her and her love around everyone that she has touched in many ways in everyone’s lives in some way. God Bless,
    Lara

  32. Mrs. Lindsey inspired many of her students, I am one of them. She has taught me so much, academically and about myself. I can not imagine ever meeting someone as amazing as she was. She always found the positive in everything and always kept me smiling. I have taken her classes for 3 years, all which I refused to take with anyone else because of her teaching style. She made learning interesting and fun. I am going for my BA in School Age Education and I will carry on her love for teaching. I can only hope one day I will inspire others as she has me. My heart goes out to her family, she was an Angel here on Earth and now she will be watching over you from above. God Bless you all. I will continue to pray for you all!

  33. I first met Mrs. Lindsey through Blue Ridge’s writing group last semester. Her passion for English and her zest for Literature was immediately clear and so was her her own kind, compassionate disposition. Her warmth, smile, intelligence and sense of humor made every moment with her feel more like time with a friend than a faculty advisor. She will be truly missed.

  34. I want to send my condolences to the family of Melody. When I first met Melody, my first impression of her was outstanding. She had a glow about her that was so bright and she was such a joy to be around. I was fortunate to have been a student of hers and then a coworker. I will miss her smiling face and her words of encouragement. She has touched so many lives and the impact she made on the campus of BRCC was incredible. I will miss her dearly but I know without a doubt that she is with her Lord and Savior.

  35. Barry, Drew, and Melody’s Family,

Melody was a joyful person to be around. I had the pleasure of working with the creative writing club with her, and enjoyed our time together so much that I specifically signed up to take her classes when I had the opportunity. She was a brilliant teacher and an inspiration. I loved distracting her in class by saying ‘kittens.’ She would always stop a second and get a smile on her face. She will always have a place in my heart. I am so sorry for your loss.

  36. Barry, I’m so deeply sorry for your loss. It’s difficult to understand God’s will during sorrowful times like these but I know he will supply an abundance of grace to help you survive this heart breaking loss. Our love and prayers are with you and your family. His grace is sufficient for every need!

  37. Mr. Lindsey and Drew,
I started my first semester of college last year. The first time she called roll we had to name our favorite ice cream…. Was I really in college?? She had the best ways to teach that made me learn and WANT to learn, and english of all things! From bombing puppies, to putting ‘everyone’ in a box in the attic, I learned! I understood. She would walk in and you knew you would be giggling and making jokes by the first ten mins of class. I will miss her like my own family.

  38. Ms. Lindsey was a great inspiration to me. I will miss her very much. My sincere condolences to the family. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

  39. Barry and family,
What can I say that others have not already said. It was such a shock.
All your friends, as well as your church family, are here to support you through this time of grief as well as any other time. We are your extended family. We want you to know that we will be here for you and Drew, in the future as well, whenever you just want to talk and have someone to listen. You are so blessed, Barry and Drew. Melody will now be watching both of you.

  40. Barry and Drew, We are so sorry for your loss. Even though I did not see her very often, I loved her and will miss her. we will see her again in heaven. Love David and Julie Kindley

  41. I knew Melody years ago when we were both students at Blue Ridge. We were part of the same ‘philosophical debate” group which was really just a bunch of students that had time to kill between classes or a cigarette to smoke. I always took pleasure in those discussions and they were the real reason I enjoyed that time at Blue Ridge. When I returned as a student to Blue Ridge a few years ago it is to my regret that I didn’t reintroduce myself to Melody. I’d always meant to. I’ve seen the effect her death has had on her students and she must have been an amazing, caring teacher. I’ll always remember her as a fellow philosopher though. I’ve been thinking about those old times a lot over the last few days. I’m so sorry to her family for their loss, I hope you can take some comfort in the fact that she touched so many people’s lives. God bless.

  42. Mrs. Lindsey was an amazing teacher and an inspiration to us all. She served as not only an advisor to myself but as a sort of life coach, challenging me as I’m sure many others as well, to constantly reach higher than before and to achieve that which often seemed unfathomable through hard work, persistence, strife, shear imagination, and a little determination. Mrs. Lindsey was an amazing teacher, an inspiration to us all. She will always be remembered. Thank you Mrs. Lindsey for all that you have done. Thank you for being you and thank you for always being there. With Love, and great remorse, rest in piece Mrs. Lindsey.
    Sincerely, Jonathan Bundschuh

  43. MY PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. I NEVER HAD HER AS A TEACHER, BUT DID PASS HER IN THE HALLWAYS AND SHE WAS ALWAYS PLEASEANT TO ME. I WILL GREATLY MISS HER.

  44. Ms. Lindsey was a great teacher. I had her for two classes and enjoyed her wisdom and character. I am so saddened to hear we lost here. I pray God to watch over her family and give time to grieve. I will always remember you Ms. Lindsey.

  45. My heart is sad for the Lindsey family. Drew, please know you are in my prayers.

  46. Ms. Lindsey was one of my favorite teachers. She was able to make me interested in a subject I usually hated. I will miss her.

  47. Mrs. Lindsey was a fabulous teacher. I really enjoyed having her as a teacher. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who cared for and loved this wonderful woman. May the Lord hold her safely in his arms.

  48. I was very blessed with having Mrs Lindsey for English 111 and part of this semester for 114. I will never forget her. She was such an inspiration to me! I thank God for allowing me to have her as my teacher! She will greatly be missed and I’ll never forget her sweet smile and wonderful teaching! Love and Prayers to family and all who were blessed with knowing her! I miss you in class!

  49. Melody was the most caring and enjoyable teacher I have ever had. Her class was always as fun as it was educational. Melody helped me to see my own passion for English and was always encouraging. She will be missed very much. Her family is in my thoughts.

  50. Mrs. Lindsey, I know your looking down here smiling and probably thinking up some crazy story like you always did in class. I remember the 80’s video we made in Eng. 80. I requested Mrs. Lindsey for 90,111,and 114. I am very thankful to have had the chance to know her. It’s been hard to sit in class without you Mrs. Lindsey. Mrs. Lindsey was that teacher that had a trick on how to remember things in Eng. I learned to enjoy Eng. Because of her special way of teaching. ‘TT’ bingo, the FANBOYS, the crazy stories she came up with like the one when the comma had to save her from drowning. She will be missed by so many and to Mrs lindseys family I’m so sorry for your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with you

  51. It has been 20 years since I had been in school and Professor Lindsey made my transition a good one. Her class was my favorite and I looked forward every class period to coming to class. Throughout class period her and Kerry would tease each other and that would put a smile on our faces. I wish that I had had her for a teacher longer because she made school fun and just had an amazing spirit about her. I didn’t realize til she got sick that every person in our class was there because of her! I was put in her class, by God, I now see, and I will be forever thankful. Mr. Lindsey and Drew, you and Professor Lindsey, have been in our prayers from the very first day that she got sick. Your wife, mother, and our teacher, will NEVER be forgotten!

  52. Mrs Lindsey you will be missed dearly! The whole Eng090 class (Candycorn snorters) miss you & know you are looking down on us smiling 🙂 You made english fun and entertaining, and it will not be the same without you.

    Love dearly,
    Cayce

  53. Saddened by the news of Melody’s passing. Memories turn to the days at Rugby and West Henderson of her truly contagious spirit and engaging ‘discussions’. Knowing that you two shared a wonderful life together. Will be praying for you and Drew always.

  54. May the love of God comfort Barry, Drew, and all of us who suffer from this great loss. Melody is with our Lord, and I can speak for everyone in saying she certainly was an ‘angel’ among us. As a student of Melody, I immediately recognized it was her genuine Love for us all that impacted us in a way that made such a difference in our lives. With all our hearts, we love and adore you Melody. May God bless us all.

  55. Barry, Drew, and family,
Melody was truly an inspiring person, teacher, and friend. It is hard to think that I will not run into her here at Blue Ridge. Her ‘teacher’s challenges’ helped see ourselves as a cohesive group. Her kind and quiet demeanor had a way to keep us focused and put things in perspective. Blue Ridge has lost an important member. She will never be forgotten. I miss her and I pray for you and yours.

  56. My continued thoughts and prayers are with you. I was only briefly acquainted with Mrs. Lindsey, however, she was a great teacher and person! Her sense of humor was a nice touch in a sometimes stressful college day. Her knowledge and insight was very helpful with the class I am taking. She will be missed tremendously.

  57. Barry, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your wife Melody. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

  58. You are greatly missed already Melody. When I told my husband you had passed he said, stunned, ‘We’ve lost one of us.’ By that he meant we’d lost one of those smart, weird people who was exceedingly nice and ridiculously funny. There’s so few of us that it makes this doubly hard. You were so loved by all your students and colleagues and I take comfort in knowing that you are up in Heaven eye-rolling and laughing at us.

  59. Hey Mrs. Lindsey you were an amazing teacher i miss you already. I know you are looking down from heaven watching out for all your English students. I will never forget what you taught me. Your family is in my prayers.

  60. Mrs. Lindsey was a truly remarkable
teacher and she will be missed terribly by her students and by all that had a chance to meet her.

  61. Ms. Lindsey was a remarkable teacher and an inspiration to all that knew her. She will be greatly missed. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the Lindsey family in this time of sadness.

  62. Melody was one of the most inspirational, concerned and down to earth people I have ever known. I loved having her as an instructor and these experiences are some of the fondest of my time at BRCC. She deeply touched so many lives, and she is already missed tremendously. My deepest condolences to her family, and the rest of her great group of friends.

  63. Dear Barry and Drew,

May God bless and comfort you during this time.

    Matthew 5:4
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

  64. Barry im so sorry to hear of your and drews loss i still remember all the trouble me and melody got into as kids.
She was more like a sister and friend then a cousin.
Im sure shes is being watched over as she is watching over you and drew.

  65. To the Family of Mrs. Lindsey,

I was sorry to hear about Mrs. Lindsey. I was privileged to have her as my English teacher last semester. She was a wonderful teacher with a pleasant personality. She will be missed.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  66. Melody touched the lives of so many individuals. Her ability to encourage and inspire students reached across BRCC campus! Our Early College students have shared many special comments about her and her ability to make everyone feel important. She will be missed!

  67. Melody was truly a great person who inspired me always. She took me under her wing and was always there for everyone. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. Blue Ridge and the world will not be the same without you. You will always be loved and missed Melody! Rest in peace.

  68. Mrs. Lindsey’s inspirational light shined beyond the reach of the commonplace, and it still gleams within the hearts of everyone who was privileged to know her. Her light was so bright that even the unprivileged have been touched by her life. My thoughts and prayers are with all.

  69. Melody was a special person that saw more to me than I did. She was my advisor, teacher, and friend. I will miss her unique humor and great laugh. I cryed this morning and now I smile, for I remeber hearing her talk about her beliefs. I know she is with her lord smiling down at us.

  70. Mrs.Lindsey was a great teacher. I remeber the first time I met her. It was an english class, my most disliked subject. She made it fun and I learned more from her than any other. She always had a smile on her face, even if she was having a bad day. She was one of a kind and will be greatly missed.

  71. To the Lindsey Family,

There are not adequate words to express my fondness for Melody. After 20ish years I returned to college at BRCC and had Melody for two classes in my first semester. I instantly recognized her kind spirit and adored her quick wit and dry sense of humor. I felt that our academic stories were similar and that she was genuinely interested in my college success. She was so encouraging that I requested her for my advisor after that first semester. She encouraged my academic endeavors and as a result of all of her help, I am now a student at UNCG. She called me at the end of last spring semester to learn whether I had been accepted into UNCG, when I told her that I had, she said I should keep in touch. She was inspirational to me as she was to so many. My regret is that I never expressed to her how she impacted and encouraged me. I hope you find comfort in the words of strangers whose lives she has forever touched. My prayers are with you and your family. Shalom.

  72. Dear Barry,
We were saddened to hear of Melody’s passing. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time. Our deepest sympathies,

    Bruce and Wendy

  73. Barry – my thoughts are with you and your son. Melody was one of my wallflower friends, but ya’ll found love early and have kept it all these years. Thinking of you all – including you Melody…
    Melinda Johnson

  74. Mrs. Lindsey was a great English instructor. Her sense of humor was amazing. She will be greatly missed by the students at BRCC. I am thankful I had the chance to have her as an instructor.

  75. Mrs. Lindsey was a great teacher..I looked forward to her class because she made me laugh no matter what kind of day I was having.I am so sorry to hear about her passing.I am praying for her family and loved ones during this time.

  76. It was a pleasure and a priveledge to know her. She was one of the best teachers and advisors that I have had. She will be missed….

  77. We extend our sympathy to the family of Melody Hargus Lindsey. Our daughter Susan was born October 3, 1962 at Memorial Mission Hoslpital. Sandra Rogers Hargus was my roommate in the hospital. We kept in touch and shared our journeys until Sandra’s tragic and untimely death. Almost 50 years ago–a memory we shall never forget.

    Jim and Ruth Earwood

  78. We’d like to extend our sympathy to the family on the loss of their wife, mother, niece and granddaughter.

  79. I’m so sorry for your lost and our prayers and thoughts are with you. Melody and Patricia were the only cousins that I was in contact with over the years and I’m sorry I could not been more close. Again I so sorry for your lost.

  80. Although I knew Melody in several ways, I think of her primarily as a writer. I first met her as a fellow writer, and her stories will always be a part of me. Her writing reflected her spirit in so many ways–insightful, humorous, deliberate, achingly real. She could transform a few words into a deep universe pulsing with vivid detail. I still can’t believe she has been taken from us. I miss her immensely.

  81. Melody has been a huge part of our lives ever since she and Barry married. There could not have been two people more suited for each other. Melody wasn’t just a sister-in-law, or a daughter-in-law, she was our sister and a daughter to my parents. We have always spent every Sunday dinner together and every holiday together and I can assure you they will NEVER be the same. We always knew how special she was and it has been so wonderful hearing how many other people knew how wonderful she was too. I can’t begin to say how much she was loved and how much she will be missed, but it is comforting to know how much she will be remembered.

  82. Barry and Drew,

I was so saddened to hear of Melody’s passing. My deepest sympathy to you and Drew and my thoughts and prayers are with both of you during this difficult time.

  83. Thank you to all of Mrs. Lindsey’s family for sharing her with the student body of BRCC. She was a magnificent lady. She made the grueling subject of English enjoyable. She was never too busy for any question or issue. She had a spirit that was infectious. My hope is that the written and spoken words you all have received over the last few days ,and well into the future, will be some small comfort.

  84. Mrs. Lindsey was my instructor for three semesters at Blue Ridge. She was the best English teacher I have ever had. Her ability to make English and grammar fun was amazing. It was always a pleasure to go to her class everyday, and I will always remember her sense of humor. She would always joke about how ‘old’ she was. She truly cared about her students, and her stories always kept the class laughing. She inspired me and, in a sense, helped me find confidence in myself and my writing. I will miss her. Prayers for your family.

  85. I need to take a moment and say the world has lost an amazing person and teacher. My teacher,Melody Lindsey taught me so much in her classes. She had a eunique way of teaching that I will never forget. Rest in peace Melody Lindsey you will truely be missed by many. She not only was an amazing teacher she cared about all of her students. She was the reason I never gave up when I was in school, and she told me during my first semester that she would see me again on graduation day. Not only was I blessed to be in two more of her classes, but I was blessed for her to consider me a friend. She personally saught me out to congradulate me the day I graduated, last May. You will always be in my heart and my memories.

  86. Barry & Drew, I am so sorry to hear about Melody’s passing, and will be lifting you both up, and the rest of the family up in prayer, you guys are a wondeful family that I got to spend some time with.Melody was a kindhearted person who loved her family very much.
    Sincerely,
    Jason Honeycutt

  87. I know that is is really weird after all these years since your passing, but I was divested over the news and I was in a really bad place in my life at that time, actually later having to drop out of school just so I could go back to work and pay the bills. I never had an instructor that could inspire me to write stories, tweak on my English, learn the difference of how to write and I could just keep on going. I learned so much from Ms. Lindsey. I still use the skills she taught me today. All those little funny stories she would come up with. I think of you so often, and I am so grateful that I got in your classes. RIP.
