Mavoureen Sexton

Mavoureen Mary Mullinax Sexton, 102, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023.

Mrs. Sexton was born in Buncombe County to the late Columbus Meridith Mullinax and Navada Shephard Mullinax. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Cleophus Sexton; daughters, Betty Louise Reed and Norma Ruth Nelson and four grandchildren, Charles “Chuck” Sexton, Scotty Tipton, Terry Sexton and Angie Sexton.

Mavoureen attended Red Oak School in Alexander, NC and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She loved her family dearly. The times she loved the most were centered around her family. Her favorite things were holding sweet babies, gardening, sewing, quilting and doing puzzles.

Survivors include her children; A. Jean Banks, Jack Sexton (Shirl), Larry Sexton (Ruth), Joanne Tipton, eighteen grandchildren, forty two great-grandchildren and thirty four great great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 3:30 pm at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with Pastors Steve Taylor, Herbert Miller, and Tony Parham officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Fairview.

The family will receive friends prior to the service at the Funeral Home from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

Pallbearers will be Mason Wooten, Tim Sexton, Tony Reed, Matthew Sexton, Alexander Maddox and Jacob Calloway. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joshua Miller, Todd Sexton, Madison Tipton and Allen Sexton.

The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Mavoureen’s wonderful caregivers and Four Seasons Hospice Nurses.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church “Cemetery Fund”, P.O. Box 1454, Fairview, NC 28730.
