Mary Bess Paige, 89, went home to be with the Lord Sunday November 18, 2012. Born in South Carolina to Floyd and Aura Walker Godfrey, she worked at Kearfott, and also as a salesperson at Sears and Belk. She was a member of the Buncombe County Home Extension Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, and Grassy Branch Baptist Church. Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Horace R. Paige. Survivors include three sons, Ronnie, Mickey and Harry Paige; two daughters, Ann Paige and Barbara Barbour, and Paul Lyda, whom she considered a son; one brother, Farrell "Sonny" Godfrey and three sisters, Ruby Lyons, Raye Caldwell and Mildred Pressley; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, at 11:00 A.M. at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, Greenwood, SC. The Rev. Art Riddle will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home, Tunnel Road. Flowers are appreciated, or memorials may be made to Aston Park HCC, 380 Brevard Road, Asheville, NC, 28806.
