Mary Ann Matthews Wright, 79, of Candler, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Flesher's Health Care.
Mary was born May 30, 1938 to the late Wesley Woodbury and Mary Holmes Matthews in Miami, FL. She attended Brevard College from 1956-57. She worked at the Days Inn, Asheville School, Food Lion, and the Snow Hill Child Enrichment Center. She enjoyed traveling, camping, singing, spending time with family, and volunteering. She was a member of Snow Hill United Methodist Church, where she was a choir member, board member, and member of Suzanne Wesley and the United Methodist Women.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Forrest Dale Wright. Surviving are her son, Mark Steven Wright of Asheville; daughter, Nancy Wright Sluder and husband Michael; two grandchildren, Christopher Greg Sluder and fiancée Jessica Kervin, and Holly Marie Bailey and husband Michael; great-grandson, Abel Wade Bailey, all of Alexander; sister, Nancy Lindeblad Spence and husband Bud, of Miami; sister-in-law, Sara Wright Hiles, of Fletcher; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at Snow Hill United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dianne Johnston officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Snow Hill BEAR Closet.

I only saw your grandmother a few times while working at The Haywood House, but she was very sweet and kind I know you will miss her!
