Marvin Ray Scott

A native of Buncombe County he was a son of the late Hubert and Delia Mary Melinda Worley Scott. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Essie Mae Scott who died in 1992. He served with the Asheville Police Department for 27 years and was with the original Inter-Agency Narcotics Squad established in the early 70’s. He attended Jones Valley Baptist Church in Sandy Mush. He was loved by all who knew him.
Surviving are his wife, Revonda (Ronnie) Mehaffey Scott; a daughter, Debra Scott Derbyshire of Raleigh; two sons, Dale Ray Scott of Leicester and James Brandon Scott of Arden; a step-daughter, Tracy Murphy Lanning of Arden; a step-son, David D. Murphy of Raleigh; four brothers, Leroy Scott of Asheville, Claude Scott of Leicester, Lloyd Scott of FL and Cecil Scott of CA; five grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Bill Gillespie officiating. Butch Oxner will speak at the service. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Knew Marvin when I was with the SBI. Worked with him alot. He was a very nice man. He was always friendly and easy-going.
