Martha “Leman” Nelon Jones, 84, formerly of Givens Estates, Asheville, died Thursday, March 29, 2007, at the Laurels of Greentree Ridge. A Buncombe Co. native, she was a daughter of the late Charles Norman and Nina Warren Nelon. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Thomas Jones; sisters, Alice McDuffie, Inez Miller, and Marguerite Jones; brothers, Wilburn, Thurston “Chug,” Charles Buren, Homer, and Jack Nelon; and niece, Millie Crowder. Mrs. Jones was a member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church of Flat Rock, MI for a number of years before returning to the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Asheville. She is survived by her sons, Ronald Jones and wife Charlotte, of Pinson, AL, and Charles “Tom” Jones, Jr., and wife Paula, of Monroe, MI; nieces, Nina Debord, of Asheville, Maureen Sherrill, of Hendersonville, and Kay Tipton, of Swannanoa, great-niece, Blonza Thomas, of Monroe, MI, former daughter-in-law, Sandi Conroy and several other nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Lisa Ann Wilson and husband Thurman, Ronald Jones, Jr., Charles Jones and wife Katie, and Mark Jones and wife Jackie; great-grandchildren, Bracken, Hunter, Nikki, Mitchell, Rebecca, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Sara, and Ross; and special friend, Jeff Tucker. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer with the Rev. Fr. Alex Hanks officiating. Interment will follow at Lewis Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Church of Redeemer, 1201 Riverside Dr., Asheville, NC 28804.

  1. Although I never got to meet Aunt Leman, we did correspond for several years. My prayer’s and deepest sympathy go out to all the family. We praise Our Lord and Saviour that Aunt Leman is now in ‘His’ Loving care.
