Louise Whitson Reel, 86, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, January 20, 2022.

Mrs. Reel was born February 4, 1935, in Yancey County to the late Noah and Fannie Howell Whitson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Reel (1996), a son, Michael Reel and a grandson Cody McElroy.

Mrs. Reel had worked as a secretary for several insurance agencies and more recently in the corporate office of Ingles. She adored her grandchildren and great-granddaughter and was devoted to Jesus. She was a member of Newfound Baptist Church.

Her family include her daughter, Beth Ammons (Jimmy); son, Joe Reel; grandchildren Bailey Ammons and Lexi Ammons, and great-granddaughter, Kira McElroy.

Funeral services will be at 2:00p.m. Wednesday at Newfound Baptist Church with the Revs. Bradley Johnson and Ricky Townsend and Mr. John Burton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Louise was truly one of the finest Christians who exemplified the love of Jesus. If you talked to her for any length of time, You would soon realize how devoted and true she was about doing God’s work in ministering to others. Her family literally meant the world to her. God has a plan for each and every one of us and I know He smiled when He thought of her. We all are blessed just being able to call her friend. She now is in that joyous place that we all know to be heaven, happy and rejoicing to be in HIS presence. Love in Christ

  3. Joe, Beth, and family, We have such wonderful memories of Louise and your family. We are all having dinner tonight and talking about Louise and what a special lady she was. She was so elegant, sweet, and lived her life for Jesus. Our love to all of you!

  6. Mrs. Reel was a warm and giving person. She taught a Sunday School class when I was a child in the pepto-bismol colored room at Newfound Baptist Church. 🙂 She was quite gracious to my mother in her last years on earth. She visited her, prayed with her, and loved her. I am praying for you, Beth and Joe, during this sad time.

  8. Dear Beth and Joe, I will miss Aunt Louise so bad. She has always been a role model for me since I was a small child. She was the beautiful older sister I never had. I’m sending love and prayers for the hard days that lie ahead.

I will always cherish the memories of her and our friendship traversing from her providing daycare for my daughter Lara to being a co-worker with me in the 70s. She was a kind and loving person.
