Born in: Blue Grass, VA
Resided in: Candler, NC

Linda Ruckman Hooke Reese, 81, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in Charleston, SC.

Linda was the daughter of the late Elmer Ruckman and Mary Bennett Ruckman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Oakley Reese, a brother, Samuel N. Ruckman, and a daughter, Debra Reese.

She is survived by her daughter, Nanette West (Steve); son, Chris Hooke (Hyo); daughter, Barbara Dykes (Rodney); nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren (and one due in June) and one great-great-grandchild. Also more precious friends than can be counted.

Her family cherished the time they were able to spend with her and will always value the wisdom she shared. She will be remembered as a loving mother, devoted friend, talented musician, passionate educator, and a committed volunteer at the VA. She enjoyed traveling and gave so much to so many in various ways. She was a beautiful soul who had the strength to endure many obstacles in her life but was still able to radiate positivity. Her contagious laugh and silly (and sometimes clumsy) ways have created such beautiful memories.

She was a member of Pole Creek Baptist Church in Candler and attended Riverbluff Church when visiting family in Charleston.

Her family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. The funeral service will follow at noon. The Rev. Dennis Thurman will officiate. Burial will take place at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain, on Tuesday, March 17 at 2:00 p.m. Chase Harris will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Light FM Radio, PO Box 159 Black Mtn, NC 28711, thelightfm.org.
