Lawrence “Ab” Abernathy Wolfe, Jr., 80, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Mission Hospital. Ab was born September 1, 1937 in Gastonia, NC to the late Lawrence Wolfe, Sr. and Annie Elizabeth Coble Wolfe. He was preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Wolfe. Ab was a Veteran of the United States Army. He graduated from N.C. State University with a degree in Dairy Sciences and worked most of his life and retired from Dairy production/manufacturing. He was a very active member of Skyland United Methodist Church. He loved his family dearly and was best known as Dad, Pops, Papa Bear, Woofie, Papaw, and most fondly, Punkin. Ab enjoyed walking outside in his neighborhood. This was a passion for him that he continued his last 15 years. To anyone who knew him, his kindness and gentle spirit was overwhelmingly apparent. Ab is survived by his wife, JoAnn Hubbard Wolfe; three children, Kevin Wolfe and his wife, Diane, Kris Wolfe and his wife, Kristine, and Kori Shoaf and her husband, Dennis; a brother, Michael Wolfe and seven grandchildren, Kayla, Kelly, Kyle, Katy, Vance, Wade and Patrick. A memorial service was held Thursday, November 16 at Skyland United Methodist Church with Reverend Wes Sharpe and Reverend Keith Turman officiating. The family received friends following the service at the church. A graveside service will be held Saturday, December 2nd, 2017 at 11:00 am in Bessemer City, NC at the Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery. Reverend Wes Sharpe will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ABCCM or Skyland United Methodist Church.
