Larry David Greenway, 84, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026.

A native of Rutherford Co., Larry was a son of the late Earl Thomas and Helen Jackson Greenway. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Judy Tanis.

Larry was a Sunday school teacher for many years and a soul winner for Christ. He loved spending time with his family, especially fishing with his grandchildren. He also loved Motown music very much.

He is survived by his daughters, Dana Strom (Bob) and Shannon Smart; granddaughter, Christen Thomas (Devin) and their daughter Carlee, grandson, Jaron Strom (Kendall) and their son Bowie, grandson, Tyler Strom (Yoshee) and their son Asher; nephew, Mike Tanis; and caregiver and former wife, Anna Walker Greenway.

His family will receive friends beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, at Groce Funeral Home at 1401 Patton Ave., Asheville, NC. The memorial service will follow at 5:00 p.m. at Groce Funeral Home. Pastor Chad Ellege, Leicester Baptist Church, will officiate.

  6. I got to know Larry well when he was a specialty chemical salesman at Momar. I was a chemist at Momar, and Larry was always very kind to me and everyone in the Momar office. His customers adored him because he treated them like family. Larry had a knack for solving problems, and he always put his customer’s needs in front of his own. It has been many years since I last spoke to Larry, but I think of him often. He was a good man!
