Born in: Buffalo, NY
Resided in: Asheville, NC

Kathleen Ann Rahill Trimbach, 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2024, in Asheville, NC.

A native of Buffalo, NY, Kathleen was the daughter of the late Edward and Alice (Daley) Rahill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Henry Trimbach, Sr., and her brother, Richard E. Rahill, of Hammondsport, NY.

Kathleen’s legacy includes seven children: Karen, of Bethesda, MD, Joseph, Jr. (Kathy) of Asheville, Susan Mihalich (Tom) of Broadview Heights, OH, Daniel, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, John (Marti), of Peachtree City, GA, James (Cheryl), of Alexandria, VA; Jane Aylward (Tom), of Chattanooga, TN; 19 grandchildren; and soon to be 23 great-grandchildren.

Kathleen graduated from Mercyhurst College in 1950 with a double major in biology and chemistry. She met her husband, Joe Trimbach, while in college, and they were married in 1951.

Throughout Joe’s career, as an FBI agent, the family was transferred every two to three years. During the frequent moves with seven children, Kathleen became a master at the relocation process, which included finding new doctors, schools, and family resources in every new city.

Ultimately, Kathleen and Joe retired to Florida where she enjoyed playing contract bridge (for which she had attained Master status), doubles tennis, ice skating, and swimming. While living in Nokomis, FL, her favorite modes of transportation were her motorcycle and her red Nissan 240SX sports car.

She also enjoyed sewing, and both hand and machine knitting. Some of her infant and children sweaters, hats, and mittens are still being worn today by her great-grandchildren.

A Catholic Mass will be said on Monday, April 29, at 10:00 a.m. at the chapel of Groce Funeral Home, 1401 Patton Ave., West Asheville. Fr. Patrick Sheedy of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, Ocala, FL, will celebrate the Mass. Inurnment will happen at a later date.

Kathleen’s family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Blessed with a long life, but even with all those years I know they were not enough for those who held Kathleen so dear to their hearts. To her loved ones, I extend my deepest condolences. May you find comfort in knowing that death was never God’s plan, (Gen.1:28; Rom.5:12) and one day death will be no more, as (Rev.21:4) loved ones will be resurrected (Acts 24:15) with the hope of life forever in paradise, on earth, as (Ps.37:11,29) God intended. Cherish the hope and your beloved mother’s memories.

  2. Grandma- Many a fond memory during summer and Christmas Vacation trips when we got to see Grandma and Grandpa. Games of Crazy Eights, tennis, pool time, fascinating stories and of course jokes! Everlasting jokes I share with my sons to this day. Thank-you for all the memories, warmth and love.
    Forever your Grandson-
    Jon

  3. She was a beautiful, caring, loving Aunt! Aunt Kathleen adopted me for many summers. Always had so much fun and many great adventures whenever I visited. My love and prayers to the family during this time.

  4. I didn’t get to see Kathleen often (she is my dad, Jack Rahill’s cousin), but when I did she always impressed me as being fun, vivacious and more than capable of handling the four male cousins and her brother! What an inspirational life Kathleen led – a bright shining star – I know you will miss her and I know you will some day be reunited with her.
