Katherine M. Van Berkel

Katherine Myers Van Berkel, 92, of Lower Grassy Branch Road, died Saturday, August 9, 2014. Mrs. Van Berkel was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late James Hezekiah and Bessie Mae Stroupe Myers. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bernard G. Van Berkel. She was a former employee of Beacon Blankets and she enjoyed sewing and quilting. Surviving are her son, Bernard G. (Bernie) Van Berkel and wife, Peggy; grandchildren, Abby Newberry and husband, Brian, Holly Sidney and husband, Yves, and Barry Van Berkel; three great-grandchildren, Maddox Sidney and Garrett and Morgan Newberry; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue, followed by a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ones favorite charity.
