Joyce Woody Rush, 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2024, surrounded by her family.
An Asheville native, Joyce was the daughter of the late Charles M. and Evelyn Patterson Woody. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Charles M. Woody, Jr.
Joyce was a dedicated member of Browns View Church. She worked for many years as the secretary for Bon Marché. She retired from the Biltmore Estate as their ticket office manager and also proudly served as their Mrs. Claus during the holiday season. Her greatest joy was raising her four daughters and supporting her husband. She loved spending time with her family.
Mrs. Rush is survived by her husband of 65 years, Lonnie Ray Rush; daughters, Brenda Bishop (Ricky), Debra Steinel (Arthur), Sharon Irby (William) and Kathy Price (Robert); grandchildren, Joshua (Beth), Megan, Benji, Hannah, Hunter (Bethany), Angel, Kyle (Taylor), Caleb, Emily (Colby), Jacob, Mary-Grace (Andrew), and Katie-Beth; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and nephews, Mark (Terri) and Matthew (Gosha).
Her family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. The funeral service will follow at noon, officiated by Pastor Ricky Netherton and Pastor Ricky Bishop. Interment will then take place at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607, or to Breast Cancer Education & Awareness.

To Deb, Mr. Rush and the family. So sorry to hear of the passing of your mother, wife and grandmother. But take comfort she is in the loving arms of our Savior.No more pain and trials of this earth, but forever happy in Heaven with the saints, in a beautiful mansion. My thought and prayers are with you all.
