Joyce Barnwell Austin, 74, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024.
A native of Henderson Co., Joyce was a daughter of the late Zeb Benjamin and Bertha Baldwin Barnwell. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, John Preston and Carroll Benjamin “Tink” Barnwell.
Joyce worked with her husband, Charlie, for many years at Charlie’s Welding Service. In her free time, she loved researching her family’s genealogy, going to car shows with Charlie, and driving her Volkswagen Beetle.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Morris Charlie Austin; sons, Kenneth Austin (Kim), Donnie Austin (Autumn), Scott Austin (Pam), and Bobby Austin (Christy); sisters, Maude Hendrix and Opal Black (Robert); 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, with two on the way.
Her family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Aaron Baptist Church, 266 View St., Asheville, NC 28806. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Pastors Jonathan Stewart and Richard Bellflower will officiate. Burial will then take place at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, Asheville.

I am so sorry to hear of Joyce’s passing. I don’t ever remember not knowing her or the kids. Sending love and prayers out to all.
I was shocked to see that Joyce passed away. We had know each other from the 9th grade at Roberson High School and carried our friendship outside of school . I send my prayers to Morris and the boys. May God offer you peace and love during this time.

Charlie and family, I am so sorry to hear about Joyce. She was such a good and caring person and we enjoyed talking on the phone. Her family and Grandchildren were her life. The last time I saw Joyce was at Aaron Baptist Church and she had me to promise that I would come to her church and I went. My deepest condolences to the family.
