Joseph Frank Murray

Joseph F. Murray, 80, of 297 High Valley Estates Drive, Alexander, died Tuesday, September 12, 2000, at the Hospice Solace Center. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late James P. and Gertrude Haydock Murray. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Henry, Lawrence, James P. Murray, Jr., and Wesley Murray; a sister, Grace Owenby, a grandson, Anthony Owenby and a great-grandson, Joseph Owenby. He was retired from Hickory Nut Poultry Farm. Surviving are his wife, Rebecca Ann McMinn Murray; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Brisco Owenby; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Frank and Elaine Murray of Leicester; two brothers, Otto Murray of Asheville and George Murray of Candler; four grandchildren, Travis Murray and Allan, Bobby, and Sandra Owenby, and one great-granddaughter, Jennifer Lopez. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Friday at Bethesda Baptist Church, Candler, with the Rev. Furman Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue where Mr. Murray will remain until being placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
