  26. When I am gone, release me, let me go. I have so many things to see and do. You mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears. Be happy that we had so many years. I gaveyou my love: you can only guess how much you gave to me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown. But it is time to travel alone. So grieve a while for me. If grief you must. Then let your grief be conforted by trust. It’s only awhile that we must part. So bless the memories within your heart. I won’t be far away, for life goes on.So if you need me, call and I will come. Though you can’t see or touch me. I’ll be near. And if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear all of my love around you soft and clear. And then, when you must come this way alone. I’ll greet you with a smile and ‘welcome you home’.
I believe that this is something close to what Joe would have said to all that he knew and touched through life. Sondra Powell

  27. Dear Papa,
I love you, and will miss you, but you will be forever in my heart and in my prayers. Just because you lived far away, didn’t mean that we could not spend time together, like we did on our hunting and fishing trips. I love you, Papa. Love, Kamden

  35. It is with shock and sorrow that I learn of Joe’s passing. I have never known a finer man, or one I was more proud to call a friend. He will be missed by everyone he ever knew. I deeply regret having not kept in better touch with Joe.
In addition to being the classic Good Guy, he had no equal in his work of representing and defending the rights of the working class people. Not only have we lost a friend, we have lost a champion. May his work now be limited to fighting big fish and little greens in heaven.

  36. So sorry to read of Joseph’s death.
Even tho we had never met, his mother and my grandpa Thomas South
were related though his father Daniel Leek South. Would love to stay in contact with the family.
My love and Prayers will be with you and May God Bless and guide you.
    Cousin- Ellen B. Neal

  37. I always enjoyed working with Joe.He was a wonderful international representative to Local 15, here in Anderson, S.C. for almost 30 years. My family and I wish to extend our condolences to the family. Joe will be greatly missed.

  38. Pa-pops hands are strong and tender
Holding me up to reach the moon
His beard soft as my snuggle blanket
Always happy to see his ‘Sweet baby’
    You left me too soon,
but I know Pa-pop that Jesus will take care of you, cause he takes care of us too.
Tell GrandmaLois hello for me and touch the moon.

  39. Although our professional roles cast us as ‘adversaries’ I always had the greatest respect for Joe. He was a man of great compassion and was a tireless advocate for those who turned to him for help. The things that I will remember most about Joe are his integrity and his faith. Joe was a man of his word. When he told you something it was the truth, and you could rely upon it.

His greatest attribute, however, was his faith. There is no doubt in my mind that Joe now enjoys the eternal peace and happiness that our merciful Lord secured for us on Calvary. Joe shared his faith with anyone who was wise enough to listen. He took seriously his obligation to share the good news, and his greatest joy was to help someone come to know the love of Jesus Christ. (I think he enjoyed this more even than winning an arbitration case against me). What a marvelous legacy!

To Linda and his loving family, I know his passing leaves a terrible void. I am sure he would want us all to remember that we will see him again in paradise, and there will be no sorrow or longing when we are united again.
