John J. Henderson, 93, of Fairview, passed away Monday, September 26, 2022 at the Charles George VA Medical Center.

A native of Asheville, John was a son of the late John J. Henderson and Maydell, and was raised by Ben and Dot Davis.

Mr. Henderson was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and worked for Baldwin Manufacturing. He started Henderson & Davis Construction Co., and was a founding member of the Fairview Fire Department, in which he served as Chief for several years.

Surviving are his wife, Agnes Marie Waldrup Henderson; sons, Johnny Henderson, III and Robby Henderson; grandchildren, Dylan, Dawson, Lauren, London, Cory and Abigail; and 2 great-grandchildren.

For those wishing to pay their respects, Mr. Henderson will lie in state on Tuesday, October 4 at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.

Burial will be private.

  4. SO SORRY TO HEAR OF JOHNS PASSING. I MET JOHN 43 YEARS AGO, WHEN HE WORKED FOR BALDWIN MFG. CO. HE CAME HERE TO WISE, VA. MANY TIMES AND NOT ONLY WAS HE A BUSINESS ASSOCIATE, BUT HE BECAME A GOOD FRIEND ALSO. HE GAVE ME A LOT OF GOOD ADVISE THAT HELPED ME THEN AND I STILL USE HIS KNOWLEDGE TODAY. HIS FRIENDS HERE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HIM.

  6. I remember Herman Lytle taking me to fish at his pond when I was super little, I didn’t know John as well as everyone else but I still believe him to be a big part of my life.
