Joe Henderson McCormack, Jr., 80, of Caleb Dr., Candler, died Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at his home. A native of Saluda, NC, he was a son of the late Joe H. McCormack, Sr., and Jennie Louise Hopkins McCormack, and step-son of the late Rudolph Alonzo. Mr. McCormack was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was also a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Mr. McCormack is survived by his wife, Juanita Hancock McCormack; sons Joe McCormack, III, and wife Margaret, Kenneth McCormack and wife Elizabeth, and David McCormack; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren, who he loved very much. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church, with Rev. Rodney Hagans officiating. His family will receive friends following the service at the church. Interment will be Monday, January 14, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., at the Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 587 Haywood Rd., Asheville, NC 28806. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

    How saddened I was to learn of Joe’s death. This has not been a good 12 months for Trinty UMC. I think there have been 7 deaths…My Mom and Dad among them.

    I remember with pride and joy serving as Den Chief for the Cub Scouts when you were a den mother…several years ago. I would have such a good time with your boys and the others at your home.

    I hope you will find comfort in the knowledge that others care and share in your loss. Well done, thou good and faithful servant.
