Jimmie Carrol Green, 78, of Asheville, died Friday, November 20, 2015 at the Charles George VA Medical Center.
A native of Madison County, he was a son of the late Larkin "Lark" Clingman and Ora Mae Messer Green. He was also preceded in death by siblings Jack Green, Ruby Israel and Peggy Green and one step-son, Jackie Suttle.
Mr. Green was a very proud veteran, having served his country for twenty years in the US Air Force, from 1955-1975. His family has a combined 118 years of service in the military. In addition to Jimmie's twenty years, his brother Richard served thirty years in the Marine Corps, his brother Gerald served twenty two years in the Air Force, his brother Ray served two years in the Army, his brother Jack served four years in the Air Force and two years in the Navy and his nieces and nephews have also served for a total of twenty eight years. After retiring from the military, he worked as a delivery driver for Bolts & Nuts for eighteen years. Jimmie was also a proud member of the Biltmore Masonic Lodge 0446, from which he received his 50-year pin.
Jimmie is survived by his loving wife of almost 40 years, Dorothy Deyton Green; one son, Jimmy C. Green Jr. and his wife Cathy, of Thomasville, NC; four step children, Mickey Wilson of Fairview, David Suttle of Asheville, Joey Suttle of Knoxville, TN and Robert Rice of Asheville; one sister, Margaret Revis and her husband, Homer of Weaverville; three brothers, Gerald Green and his wife, Shirley of Las Vegas, NV, Richard Green and his wife, Linda, of Hubert, NC and Ray Green of Skyland as well as two grandchildren, Lindsey Green and Cody Green and a host of other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A military service with Masonic Rites by Biltmore Lodge 0446 will be held at 12:30 PM on Monday, November 23, 2015 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road with Reverends Alf Miller and Brian Hanrahan officiating. Interment will follow at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 PM on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at the funeral home. The Lodge will open at 11:30 AM on Monday.
