  3. Tracie,

    Words can not express how sorry I am that you and your family are experiencing this loss. I have thought numerous times about stopping by your house to see you, especially since you live right down the road, but it takes something tragic like this sometimes for us to realize how short life really is. Please know that if there is anything I can do for you do not hesitate to ask. Jeff would always speak to my husband when they would met at the store and I could tell he was a very special person. God Bless you and your family right now.

    Michelle

    We are so sorry for your loss, and there are no words that can change what has happened and what you are going through right now. Please know that we are praying for you and your family, and all the other Law Enforcement people that take the risk of their lives everyday to protect all of us. We have friend’s that work for the Buncombe County Sherrif Dept. This will surely make us pray harder for all of them.

  9. I know your sorrow and I have felt your pain. Actually I continue to feel it every day. But I can offer words of comfort that God promises us in Ps. 147:3 that ‘He heals the broken hearted and Binds up their wounds’. God can carry your pain for you if you will allow. When I lost my husband Anthony in the line of duty I thought I couldnt go on but you have to and with Gods help you too can make it. My prayers are with you and if I can ever help in anyway I will be here.
    In His loving care,

There wasn’t a time that we didn’t meet Jeff and Tracie that we never left without sharing a laugh, a smile, a hug and a I love you….

  16. Another Conrad has been called to the Higher Command, and has gone to report to the Commander of us all

  17. The Thin Blue Line
    There are those who’ve gone before us, who we long to see again……fathers, mothers, loved ones……and some we just called friend. They chose to make a difference…..to walk The Thin Blue Line…..they took a call to duty…..but they just ran out of time. Their battles lasted but a moment….but they were warriors just the same…..and for those of us they fought for……their death was not in vain. I chose to take the Gauntlet and to walk The Thin Blue Line…and those of you, who are strong enough, please join us anytime. For the line it isn’t easy…..it’s not safe for body or soul….it will chance forever who you are…..if your lucky you’ll grow old. And when our time has run out, and we’re facing our own end…..we will walk a beat in heaven….with our loved ones and our friends.
    Our thought and prayers are with you .We didn’t know Sgt. Hewitt personally but we have several family members who are part of the law enforcement family and what a great family it is to be a part of.
    He has made us all proud.

  18. To the Hewitt family. We are praying for you and wishing you our warmest condolences through this tough time. I have known Jeff for several years and he has left a an imprint on my heart for life. Our children loved him for his kind words and well wishes. He was a great law enforcement officer and I know he was a great husband and step-father. We will miss him and even though we did not know his family members we are thinking of you at this time and ask that if we can assist you in any manner please do not hesitate to ask. Jeff will be missed greatly on this earth, but just like he has left a remarkable impression on everyone who knew him and even those who didn’t, he will be the same in Heaven looking down on us all. God Bless!

  19. Tracie,
    We know that the past few days have been a blur for you, and the next ones will as well. It is always like that when a close loved one goes. We got the news of Jeff’s death on the 1st anniversary of our 2 1/2 year old little boy’s death. His name is Jonathan. Not only did we have to grieve the death of our son this week, but also we had to grieve the death of another ‘family’? member, the death of a fellow officer. Even though Jeff and I didn’t know each other very well, his death is still hard to take. We want you to know that you and your family have been in our thoughts and prayers this week, and always will. When the anniversary of our little Jonathan’s death comes every year, we will always think of your loss. Jonathan’s little body was not perfect, so I never got to take him fishing or throw a ball with him on this earth. Maybe Jeff will take him fishing or throw a ball with him until I get to Heaven to do it with them. May God bless you and your family. I know you’ve heard this a million times over the past few days, but if we can help you, please let us know.

  20. I did not know Mr. Hewitt, but felt compelled to express my sorrow and sadness for his untimely passing. His passing is not only a great loss to his family and friends, but is also a great loss to the entire county as a whole. It is my wish that in the coming days and weeks, his family and friends will find strength in the memory of what a great man and hero he was to all.

  21. Jeff was an outstanding officer as well as an outstanding person… he touched a number of lives and he will be missed greatly

  22. I DID NOT KNOW DEPUTY HEWITT BUT I WANT TO EXPRESS MY CONDOLENCES TO HIS WIFE,STEPSON AND FAMILY.

  23. I just want to tell you how very sorry I am to hear of your loss. I helped Jeff get his mortgage loan to purchase the home you live in several years ago. I remember his loan so clearly as he was such fun to work with. It is kind of strange for me because I had not seen Jeff in several years and just about 2 weeks ago I saw him in Ingles and we talked about how crowded things were getting since the Cliffs were being built and that he had been getting my cards in the mail and was possibly thinking of moving or maybe refinancing to do some home improvements. I drive by your home every day as I live in High Vista Estates so I had seen him several times out working in the yard but I just never stopped to say hello so I am really glad I did get to speak with him that day in Ingles. My heart has been so heavy since the day I saw the news about this tragedy. I guess we just never know what life will bring us. Although I have never met you I just want you to know that my thoughts and prayes have been with you every day and I pray that God will watch over you and your family and give you strength to continue on as best you can. Sincerely, Paula

  24. I am a Lieutenant with the Raleigh Police Department, North Carolina. 26. Tracie,
    I want to express how sorry I am for your loss. I felt like I knew him in some way because of how close he was with my brother (Ike McLemore). I pray for you and your family that you could find some peace in all of this sorrow. My heart is broken for you. If there is any thing that I could do to help, please let me or Ike know. May God bless you and keep you in His perfect peace.

  27. On behalf of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, I wish to give our deepest condolences. We have lost a ‘brother’, but we will continue on in honor of him and others that have fallen before him.

  28. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers as you travel this difficult road. If there is anything we can do to help, please do not hesitate to let us know. The children are thinking of you too, Ms. Carolyn. We love you both very, very much

  29. Jeff was one of my closest childhood friends. Vacationing with his family in KY, school yard fight at age 11, sneaking out my parents car at age 14, taking our friend’s motorcycle for a joy ride, to falling off Rutledge Falls – these are just few of the memories that come to mind when thinking of Jeff. I can’t seem to think of him without a smile on my face, that now turns to tears. He was loved by many! My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Jeff will not be forgotten!!

  30. On behalf of all of us here at the D.H.H.S. Police Department (Black Mountain) please allow us to express our deepest sympathies and extend our most heartfelt condolences. 31. MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO THE HEWITT FAMILY. TO ALL FALLEN OFFICERS IN THE LINE OF DUTY, YOU WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN…

  32. To a fellow officer that I had the great oppertunity to work with for the last 2 years. You will be missed but never forgotten.

  33. Tracy – to you, your son and your family I pray that God helps you through this difficult time. You told me what a great man and father to your son he was when we were working together. I got to see that whenever I talked to him about quoting jobs for me. He was very respectful, kindhearted, honest and hard-working and he loved you and your son dearly. Please accept my sincere condolences.

  34. It is so very hard to know what to say. After countless hours of training and responding to numerous calls for sevice, all the SRT training days, competitons, and call outs. I sit and I watch the news and see your picture but it still feels like I’ll see you at training next Wednesday. All the times and discussions about days gone by at Parris Island, Camp Lejeune, and Superbowl parties with you and Tracy at the house. When the words came from Al Sunday night,it hit like nothing else could have. No other words could in any way explain the feelings of us all at this moment. It’s a hot knife that burns and will forever I imagine.
    Tracy, whatever your needs are from this time forward, the answers are only phone calls away. He was ours, you were his, and so you belong to us. Your husband to the very end, exemplified that two word summary of life that he lived by, SEMPER FIDELIS – Always Faithful.

  35. Jeff will always be in our hearts. I will always remember what a great joy it was working with a wonderful officer. God bless his family and friends. and he will always still protect as an angel … We will miss you so much .

  36. As a Director for the WNC Classic Cruisers, We extend our most deepest sympathies to you and your son. We have several people in our organization involved in law enforcement. 37. Tracy…Our prayers are with you and your family. Jeff was a wonderful man and a true hero to our community. He was a blessing to so many people. Mark considered him a best friend. I know Mark will miss him dearly. He enjoyed so many things with Jeff. Ride alongs with the department, hunting, mowing, target practice and calling each other to talk about nothing imparticular! And what stands out the most is how much Jeff loved you. Mark recognized so many little things that he would do for you. We hope you will always remember the good times and how much he loved you. If there is anything we can do, we want to be there for you. We will pray for you at this time and the year ahead. He will be missed by so many. All our love.

  38. My Criminal Justice professor is Jay Keever. Mr. Hewitt was one of his best friends. Professor Keever walked into class today with tears in his eyes and told us about his friend. Our Brother Has Been Taken

    Our brother has been taken and gently laid to rest;
    Fate seems so cruel at times to only take the best.
    While those who care for no one are left to walk life’s street;
    Bringing less joy than sorrow to those whose path they meet.
    Our brother lives forever if only in our minds;
    He’ll never be forgotten nor ever left behind.
    He’ll stand before us always as if to guide our way;
    Through all our tasks and duties awaiting us each day.
    Our brother has been taken and though we wonder why;
    We’ll still perform our duties as days then weeks go by.
    We’ll travel where fate leads, through days of dark or fair;
    Until we stand for Roll Call beside our brother there!

  45. Jeff you will be missed, but you will remain in our memories, and in our hearts forever. Working with you was truly a honor. May God watch over us until we see you again. Tracy remember you are loved by us all. We will all be here for you.

  47. Jeff was a fine man, we will all miss him. May GOD bless and keep you and his family till you meet again.

  48. Memories and images running through my head. Times we took for granted. All those nights at Denny’s, laughing and playing jokes. Talking about our side businesses and how excited you were, that yours was doing so well. Your commitment to your family and your job.
    Tracie, Jeff was the type of officer that we all strive to be. He was honest, strong, brave and faithful. He commanded strength when he walked into a room.He always took the time to listen and he was quick with a handshake and a smile.He treated people with respect and respect was returned to him. He made the uniform that he wore, the uniform didn’t make him. He loved this Job, this Country and most importantly he loved you!

    We are like angels with one wing and can only fly by embracing one another.

  49. Our hearts break for all of Jeff’s family. Our prayers are with you. God’s blessing be with you.
