He was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and was a former employee of White & Williams. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ray and Lottie Warren and James and Christine Lance.
Surviving are his mother, Jerrie Lynn Warren McDevitt and her husband Troy of Candler; his father, James J. Lance III and his wife Sarah of Candler; his girlfriend Hillary Ridenhour, and his brother Jon Lance of Candler.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Thursday at Browns View United Methodist Church with the Revs. Ed Worley and Bud Lance officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and request that memorials be made to the Upper Hominy Volunteer Fire Department.

First off I want to thank every one for their kind words. Your love and support means a lot to us, Jamie will be sorely missed by every one his smile touched, as a child and thru his brief life that smile and good disposition was his trademark.There will never be another like him, but he will live on in our hearts and the most happiest of memories.If I had another chance to talk to Jamie I would tell him of how proud I am to have him for a Son,how much I loved him, and how much he meant to me, you always think there is time for that.
As Jaime’s second grade teacher, I was deeply sadden to read about this death in the paper. He was full of energy and quite a humerous young man. He was special and I know he will be missed by you all.I will be praying for your family. God Bless you all.

Well here I am again…I am so glad this memorial is here cause I come here when i am missing you Jamie….There is not a single day that goes by that i do not think of you at least once….If you only new how much you are missed every day..Your little girl adds so much our lives..She is so smart and can talk like you wouldn’t believe..We can see you in her so much..She knows she has your eyes and she will tell you where she gets her big blue eyes..She will put her little hands on her hips and say ‘from my daddy’..She is a blessing….Missing you LOVE WITH OUT END…..

JAMIE WAS A TRUE AND HONEST FRIEND. HE WAS THE TYPE OF GUY THAT WOULD GIVE THE YOU THE SHIRT OFF HIS BACK IF HE KNEW THAT IT COULD HELP YOU OUT. JAMIE WAS JUST A LAID BACK TPYE OF GUY THAT WAS LIKE MOST PEOPLE IN THE CANDLER AREA. HE ENJOYED THE OUTDOORS, THE HUNTING, THE FISHING, AND THE CAMPING. JAMIE WAS ALWAYS THERE HANGING OUT AND HAVING FUN NO MATTER WHAT. HE WAS A COOL CAT WHO LIKED MOST EVERYONE AS LONG AS YOU GAVE HIM THE RESPECT THAT HE GAVE YOU IN RETURN. i did not find out till it was to late that jamie had passed he was a very entertainment kind of guy allways made you laugh i remember in science class in 9th grade we sit beside each other and he was a very unique kind of guy ,,,,,jamie you will be missed in our hearts and prayers keep on walking with the lord in paradise cause we all will meet up again soooon,best wishes to the whole family

Its been a lil over a year now since Jamie passed away…I look at old pictures of Jamie all the time and it sadens me that I never got the chance to say the things to Jamie that I should have, We grew up together, and just about every memory I have, has him in it…It seems that even after a year, it is still hard for me to believe that hes gone. I come back here regularliy, My thoughts and heart is always with you jamie!! I will see ya when i get there…Love you!!
