James Emanuel Hills, 72, of Arden, NC and formerly of N. Fond Du Lac, WI, died Monday, April 2, 2007 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville, NC.
He was a son of the late Maurice W. and Edith Wallender Hills and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth L. Hills, Sr. and Gordon Hills.
James was a United States Army veteran and a member of Living Savior Lutheran Church. He was an electrician with Rockwell International for 17 years until his retirement in 1997 and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed several different sports, especially golf.
James is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Nancy Roloff Hills; three sons, Michael J. Hills of Fletcher, NC, Gary L. Hills and his wife, Sue of Arden, NC and Jeffrey S. Hills and his wife, Rhonda of Fairview, NC; two daughters, Kathleen M. Crowder and her husband, Jim and Terri J. Schulze and her husband, Dan, all of Arden, NC; one brother, Morris Hills of Mosinee, WI; two sisters, Myrna Hoops of Fond Du Lac, WI and Gloria Gessert of Florence, SC; eleven grandchildren, Jonathan, Joseph, Christina, Eric, Tommy, Adam, Alyssa, Aly, Andrea, Michael and Bridgette, several nieces and nephews and a special canine companion, “Sassy”.
James’ family wishes to express their gratitude to the medical staff of the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals for their professionalism and compassion during their time of need.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, April 5, 2007 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with Pastor John Qualmann officiating.
Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park in Naples, NC.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
The family graciously requests that memorial contributions be made in James’ memory to the Living Savior Lutheran Church Building Fund, 301 Overlook Road, Asheville, NC 28803.

Seeing the obitutary on the passing of Jim brought out many memories of our youth and growing up and the good times we had together. Please except our sincere condolences. You and your family are in our prayers.
My sincere sympathy to the Hills family. Jim was a great person- truely likeable. I will always remember him.
If there is a God in heaven- there is a golf course there!
I hope that I can play a round with him again someday.

I am glad I had the privilege of working with Jim for so many years. I also enjoyed golfing with him. Jim was a great friend and work partner.
