James Donald Tomberlin, 88, of Overlook Road, Arden, died Saturday, May 4, 2013. Mr. Tomberlin was a Yancey County native and was a son of the late James and Hattie Hensley Tomberlin. He was an Army veteran of WW II and was a founding partner with Ellis-Tomberlin Insurance Agency, which later merged into Robinson-Conner. He was a 50-year member of Biltmore Masonic Lodge #446, which will open at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, and he was a member of First Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia Anderson Tomberlin; son, Kent Tomberlin; two grandsons, Alex and Daniel Tomberlin; sister-in-law Emogene Tomberlin, and nephew, Jeff Tomberlin. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Guy Sayles officiating. Interment with military and Masonic honors will follow at Lewis Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 5 Oak Street, Asheville, NC 28801, or to Eblen Charities, 92 Westgate Parkway, Asheville, NC 28806. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting with the arrangements.

So many times I have taken Don,Woody Griffin,Marvin Nockow,Bill Estes , and Joe Eblen to lunch and listen to all the tall tales these great guys would tell. a wonderful group that really enjoyed each other.   2. Pat and family I have known Don for over 62 years. I got to know him when he taught at Valley Springs and coach girls basketball team. He will be greatly missed. One of the finest man I have every known. Our prayers go out to your family.

I can just see him sitting on my deck talking, eating and telling us about his young wild years. I pray that God will give you all good memories of him and you will be comforted in the good times you two have had.   7. I am saddened to hear of Don’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with Don through USF&G for many years. He could always find the humorous side of any situation. Don and I traveled several times to Clemson to watch Tiger Basketball. He will be missed by all who knew him. Prayers and peace to Don’s family. Eddie Haynes

    I am so sorry for your loss. Don was such a wonderful person. Please know that I have thought of you and Don many times over the years and will continue to do so as you both are such wonderful people. He touched so many people in such a positive way. He will me greatly missed.
