Black Mountain - James Albert Carr, 60, died Saturday, May 3, 2003, in the Asheville VA Medical Center. A native of Kings County, New York, he was the son of the late William James Carr and Dorothy Straub Carr. He worked as a finish carpenter in construction, was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 2220 and the VFW Post No. 9157, both in Black Mountain, and a US Navy veteran of the Cuban Missile Crisis. James is survived by his two sons, William Patrick Carr, and his wife Christine, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. and Stephen Carr, and his wife Elizabeth, of Wilmington, NC; and his former wife, Rita Anne Carr. A memorial service will be held at 3 pm Monday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. His family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and will have a reception immediately following the service at the American Bistro. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 31 College Place, Building C, Suite 100, Asheville, NC 28801.
