Jack David McFalls, 76, passed away on Monday, July 23, 2007 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. Jack was born on March 12, 1931, to the late Hobart N. McFalls, Sr. and Grace Rogers McFalls. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Rev. Hobart N. McFalls, Jr. and two infant sisters; Bessie Hazel McFalls, and Ruth Mildred McFalls. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Ruth McElrath McFalls; one son, Russ McFalls and wife, Anna of Culpeper, VA; one granddaughter, Alison McFalls of Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica; one grandson, Andrew McFalls of Charleston SC; one sister, Elnora McFalls Henson of West Asheville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was a graduate of Sand Hill High School. He served as a deacon at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, NC, and was a member of the Orange Presbytery, where he sat on the selection committee of new ministers. He was an elder at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Richmond, VA, and was a member of West Asheville Presbyterian Church in West Asheville. In Greensboro, Jack was a member of Toastmasters of America, served as a Commissioner for Boy Scout Troop 334, taught American Red Cross at Western Electric Company, and led a Junior Achievement Group. Jack was a retired Senior Engineer from Alcatel Lucent where he was awarded Engineer of the Year in 1976. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served in the Korean Conflict. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue, with the Rev. Dr. A. Willis Gaines, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Hice Hill Cemetery in Candler. Pallbearers will be his nephews and grandson. Honorary pallbearers are Carl Bryant, Bill Carines (Smokey) and Howard Lovin. Memorials may be made to Hice Hill Cemetery; in care of Sandra Johnson, 145 Dogwood Drive, Candler, N. C. 28715; or to the John F. Keever, Jr., Solace Center; P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, N.C. 28813. The family appreciates the care received from the oncology team at Missions St. Josephs Hospital as well as the team at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center.
