J. THOMAS WOLFE
(June 15, 1948 – November 23, 2008)
Tom Wolfe of Candler, NC passed away Sunday, November 23, 2008, after a brief illness. He was a native of Candler and a life-long member of Hominy Baptist Church.
Tom graduated from Enka High School in 1966, where he was named "Best Personality" for his senior superlative. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1968 and was based in Norfolk, VA and San Diego, CA. He served in Vietnam during combat missions as an air traffic controller on the aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga. After his tour of service, Tom attended Asheville-Buncombe Technical College and Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA., majoring in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He managed restaurants and hotels in the Winston-Salem area prior to working with Proctor & Gamble and Swift. He later designed commercial kitchens across the Southeast.
Tom loved the mountains and the ocean, thus moved to Seabrook Island, SC for over 12 years. He eventually returned to the mountains of Western North Carolina, where he has resided for the past 4 years. These were the happiest years for him, and he will be remembered by his family, friends and church family as a fine, caring, dynamic man who loved life and truly enjoyed and appreciated the gift of every moment that he lived.
Tom is survived by his mother, Martha A. Wolfe of Candler; his sister Cheryl L. Wolfe of Milwaukee, WI; and his dear friend, Ann Brinkley of Candler. They already feel the great loss of this beloved man, but they celebrate the incredible life of the man that he was.
He is also survived by his father, James H. Wolfe of Henderson County.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm, Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at Hominy Baptist Church in Candler with Rev. Dr. Joe Yelton officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hominy Baptist Church, 135 Candler School Rd., Candler, NC 28715.

Our deepest condolences. Tom was a dear friend to me (Phil) and helped me through many hard times. I will miss him dearly and wished I could have seen him recently. I was hoping he could come to our wedding in 2005 on Seabrook and meet Sharon. Anne was a great help to him and we are so glad she was in his life. We wished we could have met her. God rest him now.
