Candler ~ Helen M. Glance, 83, passed away peacefully at John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center on Wednesday, September 12, 2012. Helen was born October 18, 1928 to the late James and Reatha Garnto. A native of Georgia, she spent most of her life in Buncombe County. Helen died after four years of courageously battling complications from Heart Surgery. Helen was an assistant manager at Bon-Ton Cleaners and Laundry and later a manager at Lerner's. She and her husband owned and operated The Nakon Motel for twenty three years before retiring in 1983. Helen enjoyed her home life, traveling and spending time with her family, whom she loved so very much. Survivors are her husband, Roger Glance of the home; a son, Dr. Greg Glance of Candler; a step-daughter, Pamela McAdams and her husband, Len of Renton, Washington; a step-daughter, Phyllis Callahan of San Diego and a step-son, Ronald Fox and his wife Linda of Arizona. She had eleven grand children. They are Sara and Tyler Glance, Terri Serena, J.J. Fox, Kate, Alex and Kyle Shaw, Calley and Randi Callahan and Chris and Mark Moore. She had six great grand children and several nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by a daughter, June Moore; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Glance and a sister, Shellie Joiner. Helen was the most lovable, caring and compassionate lady I've ever known. She was the complete love of my life and I'll love her eternally. Helen wishes to bid a fond farewell to all of her great neighbors, friends and relatives and a special farewell to her friends at her beauty shop. We wish to thank the entire staff at the John F. Keever Jr. Solace for their wonderful care. Anyone wishing to donate in her honor may do so to this organization. Due to the family's desire for privacy in matters such as this, there will be a private service and interment at a later date.

  5. Wednesday afternoon, the Angels received a new and wonderful one into their midst. My beloved step mom for many decades crossed over, peacefully and in no pain, holding her beloved’s hand. She had fought a determined and valiant fight to stay here with my dad, the love of her life for over half a century. But, in the way of being human, it was her time to go. We, who know and love her, will so miss her mountain woman strength, her incredible humor and kindness and love of life, and her fierce protection for those she loved. She has taught us many lessons through her grace.
May each of us aspire to live such a life.
