Harvey Eugene Mathews, 63, died Friday, May 9, at St. Joseph Campus, Mission Hospital.
Mr. Mathews was born in Buncombe County and was a son of Reva Franklin Mathews and the late Honson J. Mathews.
Harvey worked for the state of North Carolina and was a member of Mt. Herman Masonic Lodge #118 and the Oasis Shriners where he participated with the Oasis Mountain Buggies.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, Carrie Mae Green; a brother, Sam Mathews and his wife, Kaye; a niece, Heather Green; two nephews, Jason Green and Brandon Mathews, and eleven great-nieces and nephews.
A Masonic service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue, after which the family will receive friends. Burial at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery will be private.

Sam, I was so sad to hear about Harvey. I will remember him as a good friend and for many years as my dance partner on Saturday evening . I have many fond and funny memories of Harvey. He will be missed. 🙁
